Las Vegas Fan Festival Day 2 is over and tomorrow YoshiP and team will be on a flight to prepare for London Fan Fest next weekend! What did we learn today?

  • Patch 2.4 rolls out October 28th (nothing new here, everyone figured it’d be out very soon after the London Fan Fest but nice to have official confirmation!)
  • YoshiP is still a troll
  • The Live Letter didn’t give much more new information but did confirm a few things
  • New housing ward will be made available, but in the form of ‘subdivisions’. The explanation seemed a bit complicated so instead of typing it up, I just made a quick excerpt of that section below.
  • Final Coil of Bahamut will have 4 turns. First will be doable with current i110 gear, 2nd turn will be more challenging, turn 3 and 4 is supposed to be insane.
  • The Hildibrand quests are going to continue being hilarious but the storyline ends before 3.0. Pretty sure they won’t phase out Hildi but YoshiP would not commit to yes or no. Short intro to Ultros and Typhon from the questline below. The music is absolutely awesome and brings such nostalgia for the older games!
  • There was an interesting discussion about echo and adjustments to the difficulty of Second Coil of Bahamut. I made a clip of it below. I’ve heard many different view points on content ‘nerfing’ in a way, which you can tell the audience wants things to remain ‘hard’. I understand both view points, and agree with what the producers need to balance in term of financial profitability from content. It’s a huge discussion and everyone has their own opinions. My two cents: what does matter in the long run? Allowing more players to catch up means profit for the company which in turns allow them to create harder content for future patches which the 1%ers will eat up quickly and then move on.
  • Also of note, in content where there is a weekly lock out, they are trying to balance out a system which will allow players to assist other LS mates. We’ve been asking for this for ages, not being able to help friends after weekly Coil clear for example was the poop!
  • Ninja gear – looks like it’ll be sharing with Monk for contents up to 2.3. Then it starts to get specialized.
  • Ninja primary stat – dexterity
  • The marriage system is called Eternal Bond and a limit will be placed on number of ceremonies allowed per day. Sort of like RL wedding halls, gotta book it?!
  • Best of Show cosplayer was the amazing Garuda. So many awesome cosplays, very impressive
  • To everyone who got to go and then got to win a Titan at the Raffle … /stinkeye /jealousy!!!
  • KOJI FOX CAN SING HOLY FREAKING HELL!

This is FFXIV: ARR Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida. First of all, allow me to express my thanks to all of you who have offered feedback on the matter of housing prices. Needless to say, I have been following the discussion very closely.In this post, I would like to clarify our fundamental stance toward housing prices, and offer a better picture of how players can expect prices to fall in the near future.
(My apologies in advance if this post gets a bit wordy.)

Fundamental Pricing Stance
Our fundamental stance toward housing prices was that we wanted to ensure that plots would be evenly distributed, avoiding a situation in which the wealthiest players could easily buy up all available plots of land. Please understand that while we will be adding servers and expanding housing areas as soon as we can, it is simply physically impossible for us to accomplish this easily, in a matter of one or two weeks.

If the initial price of land was easily within the means of wealthy players, one can envision all available plots of land being snatched up immediately, leaving other players—even those possessing the necessary gil—unable to purchase land for an extended period of time. Seeking to avoid this, we made the difficult decision to go forward with the pricing scheme we presented, aware that many players would be unable to afford housing for a while.

Eorzean Economy Review
Before determining the initial (or maximum) prices for land, we conducted an extensive survey of the Eorzean economy across multiple Worlds, including:

  • The total amount of gil possessed by all players
  • The total amount of gil possessed by all active players on each World
  • The number of active free companies and members on each World
  • The total amount of gil owned by all active players belonging to each free company on all Worlds
  • The amount of gil entering the economy and circulating in the market on a given day in each World
  • Distribution of the above (X% belonging to the most wealthy, Y% belonging to the middle class, Z% to the less wealthy, etc.)

Needless to say, RMT traders are served with immediate bans and their gil removed from circulation, so these figures are not included in the above. In addition, to account for gil generated by RMT abuses that might still be in circulation, an additional 10% or so was subtracted from the figures we arrived at.

What we realized from this survey was that the wealthiest players in each world had at their disposal an amount of gil that was considerably higher than one would imagine. In each legacy World, there are more than ten players in possession of over one hundred million gil. Even in non-legacy Worlds, there are a significant number of players with several million gil.

The Future Price of Housing
In conducting this survey, we created a forecast for gil distribution in the three-month period following the release of patch 2.1. In doing so, we anticipated that:

  • Players will be seeking to earn more gil than they have thus far, and
  • The overall amount of gil generated each day will be higher (in fact, considerably higher) with the release of patch 2.1

…and adjusted our forecast accordingly.

The results of this forecast, with the necessary adjustments for differences between the various Worlds, formed the basis for the depreciated “XX Days Later” prices presented in the patch notes.

With this pricing scheme, we sought a balance in which roughly 80% of all existing free companies will be able to purchase at least a small-sized plot in three months’ time.

I understand that, in taking these measures to ensure even distribution of land, we are asking for considerable patience from those players who are eager to enjoy housing right away. While I sympathize with players concerns, we believe that this is in the best long-term interests of the game.

The Regulation of Starting and Final Prices
As mentioned within the patch notes, we will closely monitor land purchases, and consider revising prices as necessary according to World population and economy. Please keep in mind that prices will decrease every six hours from the opening of the servers, and will continue to drop even during maintenance. Furthermore, plots of land released in the future will never be more expensive.

Legacy World Price Adjustments
Due to the prodigious amount of gil in circulation in legacy Worlds, we regret that current housing prices may be prohibitive to the following players:

  • Those new to the game who started on legacy Worlds
  • Those returning to a legacy World after taking an extended break
  • Those on a legacy World who have been unable to save gil

Upon considering the feedback we have received since the release of the patch notes, we have decided to make the following adjustments:

  • Land prices will start at the figures indicated in the patch notes
  • From January 2014, devaluation will be adjusted every two weeks
  • After three months, final land prices will match those of World Group 3

Bahamut / Behemoth / Cactuar / Carbuncle / Chocobo / Diabolos / Fenrir / Garuda / Gilgamesh / Ifrit / Leviathan / Mandragora / Midgardsormr / Odin / Ramuh / Shiva / Siren / Tiamat / Titan / Tonberry / Ultros

Although this takes place over the course of three months, land prices in legacy Worlds will eventually fall to match those of World Group 3. In the event that pricing changes are made to this group, the same will be applied to legacy Worlds.

By adjusting devaluation at set intervals rather than in one go, we hope to prevent a sudden rash of purchases.

The introduction of housing will help to unify the perceived value of gil in each individual World. Furthermore, it has presented an opportunity for us to consider the lifting of restrictions on transfers between between legacy and non-legacy Worlds.

Personal Housing
While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

In Summary

  • The final price of land on all Worlds is subject to adjustments, and may fall lower
  • Over the course of three months, prices on legacy Worlds will fall to match those of World Group 3
  • Personal housing will be far more affordable than free company housing

We realize that these measures will not immediately satisfy all players, especially those on legacy Worlds who are either new to the game or returning from extended absences. We ask for your patience and understanding as we strive to create a balanced housing system.

Removing the lock-on feature is something easier to implement ahead of time when comparing to item sort (order). In Regards to Implementing Features Ahead of Patches

We’ve been searching for a method to release features like this (and the sort feature) as quickly as possible. However, because the official version of the game and the internal developer version have various differences, it would require individual checks and implementation on both versions to release specific features ahead of time.

As the number of features we implement ahead of time increase, there would consequently be an increase in the amount of time needed for checks as well as transplanting work to be done. Due to this, the number of features we can implement by the patch would be reduced. 

With that said, we’ve opted to introduce features where the risk of implementation is realistically manageable and the effects of addressing it are high to be implemented ahead of time.

As a player myself, I understand your feelings when things are inconvenient, and I apologize for this.

The ability to turn off the Lock On feature has comparatively less related features associated with it than the item sort feature, and is a feature that would be easy to implement ahead of time. We’d like some time to looking into whether we should implement this ahead of time with other important features such as the pet and minion targeting adjustments and RMT blacklisting.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – Weekly Dev Round Up! 08/09-08/16/2013

Between the crazy amounts of work, RL events and in game progression, I’ve had very little time to post on the blog even though I have so much to talk about! Within the past week, devs have posted some really nice tidbits which I will chronicle below.


RMT SPAM RAWRR

Greetings,

We would like to apologize for the inconveniences that RMT spam has been causing. We are diligently investigating any incoming reports or sightings of RMT shouts and banning them as soon as possible. In addition, we are working on speeding up the investigation flow.

We understand that the current RMT shout/spam reporting procedure can be improved so we are working our hardest to implement a system that is faster and easier to report/block violators. With that said, we sincerely appreciate the assistance from those of you who have been submitting reports as we work towards improving the system.

We are also adding more complex chat filters to the already large list we have arranged in order to further prevent RMT spam. We will continue to do so in a manner that will not affect your normal conversations.

You can check out our progress on combating the RMT issue on the official Lodestone here and here, so please take a look if you have not already.

We appreciate your support and we will continue put forth our best effort to alleviate RMT spam and maintain an enjoyable gameplay experience.


Item Level Restrictions for Content 

We understand that some of you have some concerns regarding the item level restrictions for content; however, the development team is aware that there are players who are trying to challenge high level content without the proper amount of attack and defense, and would like to ensure that everyone participating in the content is on the same level.

Just to reiterate, this adjustment will be made in patch 2.1, and your average item level will be displayed in your character window. To coincide with this, we will also be adding a display for the required item level in the Duty Finder.

Reallocating Companion (Chocobo) Skill Points is Coming!

You’ll be happy to know that we are in fact planning for a way to re-allocate your companion skill points. Once we have the details, including when we plan on implementing this, we will be sure to let you all know!

Also, for those of you who are curious, the maximum amount of skill points you can earn is 55 points. In order to learn the final ability for each role, you’ll need to put in all of these points. Hopefully this information will help you plan out your companion’s abilities a bit better until we introduce the method for re-allocation.


Better and More Placement For Retainer Summoning Bell!

We realize that there are a lot of requests for summoning bells to be placed in other areas, such as having them in all sanctuaries. In order to relieve congestion and crowding in the areas where we currently have summoning bells, we plan on setting up more of these with new market boards. We’re looking to implement this in patch 2.1.


Mogu Mogu Earrings Registration Code Issue

We realize that it’s taken some time to address the concerns of those users that are unable to redeem their Moogle Earrings because they will not activate on their account. We’ve set up a flow that will allow you to send in your unused code and we can replace it with a code that will work for your account.

If you have an unused Moogle Earrings bonus code, please follow the below steps to exchange your code for a working one:

  1. Visit the Square Enix Support Center.
  2. Create a ticket using the following categories:
    Category: Accounts/ID
    Sub Category: Registration Code
    Contact Detail: Moogle Earrings Bonus Code
    Select “Next”
  3. A list of Knowledge Base articles will be displayed, please select “Next”
  4. Log into your Square Enix Account
  5. Proceed to Email Support
  6. Fill in your contact email details, for Platform either Windows or PlayStation 3 is fine, and please enter the unused Moogle Earrings bonus code into the “Registration Code” field.
  7. Once your ticket has been received, we’ll confirm that the code is valid and send a replacement code. Please note that the submitted code will no longer be usable once the process is complete.

Once again, sorry for the delay in getting this addressed!


Repair Costs, Dark Matter Costs and More

The development team is aware that there are times when you cannot participate in content so easily and without worry, and I’d like to let you know future countermeasures we have planned to address this.

  1. Significantly reduce repair fees and the cost of dark matter
    While the focus will be placed on high-levels, we will be significantly lowering the overall fees for repair and the cost of dark matter.
  2. Addition of item level requirements for high-level dungeon participation
    We’ll be adding a requirement to participate in high-level dungeons and hard mode primal battles that will make it so you need to have equipment above a certain item level equipped to participate. To coincide with this, we will be implementing a system that will display the average item level for your gear in the character window.
  3. Addition of a party recruitment window
    We’ll be implementing a bulletin board type of system where you can recruit party members that are only on your world. When recruiting, you can indicate the dungeon you would like to do, the roles you are looking to recruit, the levels, etc. (We’ll be announcing the details soon.)

We will be addressing #1 after the maintenance tomorrow, and #2 and #3 will be implemented after patch 2.1.


Registration Code Issues

Users that encountered this issue, and submitted a ticket to the Square Enix NA support center – we have dispatched emails to you that contain registration codes for you to activate them on the correct service account.

If you submitted a ticket, but do not see an email, be sure to check your spam/junk folders!

To register the code to the correct service account, please follow the below steps:

Windows Version

  1. Visit the Mog Station and log into your Square Enix account
  2. Select the yellow tab of the desired FFXIV service account you wish to add your new registration code to
  3. Click the Add Windows Service button
  4. Enter your new registration code. Please note that a small window summarizing the selected service account will be displayed. Please make sure you have selected the proper service account.
  5. Follow the remaining prompts to finalize the registration process

PlayStation 3 Version

  1. Redeem the new Promotion Code on the PlayStation Network or via the PS3 Account Management
  2. Run FFXIV and log into your Square Enix Account
  3. Select “FFXIV: A Realm Reborn – PlayStation®3” product to be registered to your Square Enix Account
  4. Select the desired service account you wish to add your new promotion code to. Please note that a summary of the service account will be displayed. Please make sure you have selected the proper service account. Be sure not to select the button that says “Create New Service” account

All Worlds Maintenance (Sept. 11)

Greetings,In case you haven’t seen the news announcement posted on Lodestone, we will be holding a long maintenance on Wednesday, September 11th from 5:00 p.m. until September 12th at 3:00 a.m. This maintenance will address the below three things, which Yoshida mentioned in his post:Originally Posted by Naoki_Yoshida

  1. Substantially increase the number of Worlds.
  2. Create a third duty finder group to further alleviate server stress.
  3. Increase the number of servers used for instances.

The development team is working on a couple of additions and improvements for the Lodestone, and I wanted to pass along some of the things they are looking to do.

  • Currently developing a filter feature to be added to your wall.
  • Addition of a mouse-over feature for your free company’s chest.
  • Looking into various measures for uploading images, such as linking to external sites, to address the image space concerns.
  • Addition of direct links for URLs placed in topics and news announcements.
  • Planning to provide tools that will allow you to reference the planned Lodestone data base from external sites.
