Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A
Q: What kind of plans do you have for warrior, dragoon, and other class/job adjustments?
We’re hearing a lot of talk saying that warrior is weak compared to paladin, but there are a couple of points I’d like to go over, so I’ll go over them one by one.
First, I’d like to talk about the boss monsters in the Binding Coil of Bahamut Turn 1 and 4. We designed them so that even tanks could not withstand their attacks when they have buffs stacked; however, at the moment only paladin is able to survive through a method we had not thought of. Our original vision for this was that players would clear these encounters by properly removing enemy buffs or kill them all before it got to the point where they would one-shot players.
Since this is content that has already been released and strategies have already been established, we won’t be making adjustments to these encounters. Instead we’ll be looking into making adjustments to warrior so they can withstand this like paladin is able to.
Next is the matter of warrior’s stun. Unlike the paladin’s stun, which is tied to the global cooldown, warrior can use stun at any time, which helps maintain stacks of wrath. However, there are times when you need to use stun consecutively, or the timing is difficult due to its activation time. Because of this, it would seem that players have a negative impression of warrior’s stun. We’ll be making adjustments in patch 2.1 so that warrior’s stun is more useful, which should help address the disparity between warrior and paladin.
There’s also the matter of Wrath and the use of Inner Beast. I believe that a lot of players are using Inner Beast to self-cure when taking a large amount of damage, but after becoming infuriated with five stacks of Wrath, players receive a 15% curing bonus, so instead of using Inner Beast right after taking heavy damage, I think it would be better to wait for heals from a white mage or scholar.
In addition to the curing bonus, Wrath has other benefits as well. For example, while Paladin certainly has high vitality and HP, we’ve worked to balance them with Warriors based on the amount of damage they take and the amount of HP they’re healed for. However, we’ve made these adjustments bearing in mind that warriors have Wrath active. This is what makes the job difficult to use effectively. Using Inner Beast spends all stacks of Wrath, which makes it difficult to use Inner Beast right after a combo, and then build the stacks back up with the following combo. With that said, from a healer’s perspective, although warriors can heal themselves right after taking heavy damage, once they use Inner Beast they don’t heal themselves well, giving the impression that they lack defense.
These are a few of the factors contributing to the problems we’ve seen with warrior. While we’d like you all to continue experimenting with uses for Wrath up until patch 2.1, we feel effective use of this skill is a bit difficult, so we’ll be making adjustments in patch 2.1. There are several other aspects of the job that will be adjusted, but rest assured that warrior will become stronger come December.
As I explained in a previous Letter from the Producer LIVE, we’ve balanced content so that it can be cleared on any job; however, depending on the content, there will always be aspects that certain jobs are more suited for than others. Comparing ranged DPS and melee DPS, for example, there are many situations where melee DPS will have to move more frequently than ranged DPS to avoid attacks. There are also many encounters such as Titan where phase changes will wipe combos, or they may change in the middle of stacking a combo. Comparatively it’s much easier for ranged DPS to deal damage in these situations, so we will be making overall corrections. Specifically, we will be enhancing all melee DPS in patch 2.1.
Regarding dragoon’s jump abilities, the game recognizes you as being in the spot where the action was initiated, and it’s not possible to move while in the jump animation. When fighting hard mode Titan, for example, this causes problems when he uses Weight of the Land while dragoons are in the middle of a jump, or they may land as Titan prepares to use Landslide.
Jump is the star ability for dragoons, so we understand the feedback asking to make it so you are invulnerable while using Jump. However, if we simply made dragoons invulnerable, considering the future content we’ll be adding which involves dodging enemy attacks, everyone would just play dragoon and use Jump at the same time to avoid damage, so we won’t be doing this. With that said, we’re planning to reduce the animation lock after using jump abilities, which should improve their overall use. However, there will definitely be situations where timing is essential to avoid being hit by enemies, and there will be no change to this aspect of combat.
We often hear opinions that Titan is too hard, but looking a people who were participating in the Titan Challenge we held at multiple events, not only dragoons, but everyone in general had their cameras zoomed in quite a bit. I believe this is because in FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 you couldn’t zoom out very far, but in order to dodge different attacks in high level encounters in FFXIV: ARR, it’d be best if you zoom your camera out to the maximum distance.
Also, as a melee DPS, I think it’s difficult to avoid bomb boulders while focusing on your attacks, but ranged DPS and healers can maintain a fair bit of distance and there may be other players in your party who are good at dodging, so if you don’t know where to go you can follow these players to stay safe. Of course it’s important to memorize the patterns, but quick decisions are also critical. Furthermore, there have been requests to boost magic defense, but we’re looking into this carefully.
I’m sure that after adjusting dragoon, the frequency with which Jump is used will increase, but please keep an eye on the battle, because if you use it too much you may find yourself in trouble. However, we’ll be making it easier to dodge enemy attacks after using it, so please take this as an improvement to Jump.
Overall Job Balance
Naturally each job has their own identity, and depending on the content there will be slight advantages and disadvantages. Up until hard mode Ifrit, we’ve balanced content so it can be cleared without the use of cross-class abilities; however, by using certain cross-class abilities, the difference in damage between certain jobs becomes much more noticeable as battles drag on. With that said, we will be making adjustments to the average amount of damage jobs deal in various encounters.
Regarding stacked party compositions, it’s actually more beneficial to have different jobs in the party to help fill your limit break gauge faster. There are a lot of situations where you can use level 3 limit breaks, so if you have a strategy that calls for limit breaks at certain times, it’s be more advantageous to make parties with different jobs.
Although we’ve noticed that certain jobs are favored in certain instances over others, we will continue making adjustments moving forward based on the idea that all jobs can contribute to encounters. In regards to bard, though their recast times are long, they are able to deal large amount of damage in a short period of time, and we feel that this is a bit too strong of an advantage for battles where enemies change phases.
First, I believe a lot of players who are looking to quickly and efficiently clear dungeons are recruiting members via shout with requirements that people have powerful gear such as Garuda or relic weapons. Since the Duty Finder matches people without first checking their goals, there are a lot of breakdowns in communication, and we’re considering a number of changes in 2.1 to allow players to recruit party members with certain requirements. For example, we’ll be making it possible to recruit members through a bulletin-board system. There will be a list in the window, and you can indicate the content you want to run and add a comment. Other players can look at this list, request a party invite, and join the group. The recruitment list will also list which roles have been filled and other important party details.
Also, for the players who are recruiting members, the recruitment screen will have a list of choices you can check such as: “first timers welcome,” “taking our time,” “please stick around until we beat it,” “going after loot,” “playing for the story and will not skip cutscenes,” etc. You can check off any options that fit you goal, and recruit members. Similarly, the players who are searching the recruitment list can check these options and search for specific groups. For example, if you want to progress through the main scenario you can check the boxes that apply and search for parties with the same goal. We hope this will make it easier to form parties with people on the same server.
We also plan to update the Duty Finder. As there are a significant number of updates planned, we’re considering focusing on this during the next Letter from the Producer LIVE. One particular addition I’d like to briefly mention is random matching. This is a matching feature that will let you join instances at random after choosing one of several categories such as “leveling dungeons,” “high-level dungeons,” “main scenario primal battles,” etc. By using random matching, you’ll be able to obtain Allagan tomestones once a day for each category. After selecting a category for random matching, you will join whichever instance has the fastest matching speed. This feature will also make it easier for new players who are progressing through low level dungeons and story primal battles to be matched up.
Furthermore, we will be adopting an MVP voting feature, so you can vote on the player who you feel did the best job in the dungeon and they will receive MVP points. By accumulating these points, you will be able to exchange them for equipment and mounts.
When it comes to acquiring Allagan tomestones, we realize there are only a handful of options for obtaining them at the moment, but in patch 2.1 we’ll be adding three new dungeons, extreme mode primal battles, Crystal Tower, beastmen daily quests, and treasure hunts, all of which will allow players to obtain Allagan tomestones. Although there are currently a mix of players who want to run through content efficiently to obtain tomestones and those who want to progress at their own pace which causes tension in Duty Finder parties, we feel this problem will be resolved when we add more methods to tomestones.
In a single grid, a maximum of 100 characters will be displayed. Since NPCs and monsters have display priority, the monsters themselves do not actually disappear, but once more than 100 players enter a grid, certain characters are no longer displayed. The system was set up to hide objects from other grids, so even if hundreds of characters gather, stress is not placed on your PC.
However, there is one problem. If, for example, Behemoth is in a certain grid, and the amount of characters in that grid exceeds 100, no matter what happens he will always be displayed within that grid. However, there is no display priority for adjacent grids. In short, if you’re not positioned in the same grid as Behemoth, you won’t be able to see him when the area is crowded with hundreds of players. If you move to the grid where Behemoth is located he will always be displayed, but once he moves to a different grid he will disappear again.
As a countermeasure, we will be implementing a special system that monitors the display priority for zones as a whole. This system will ignore normal display priorities when special monsters or objects appear in zones, allowing them to be seen regardless of what grid they’re located in. However, we have to approach this carefully, so there are no plans to implement this until patch 2.1.
Also, when more than 800 players congregate in certain areas, a large amount of latency is generated, and the server is designed to automatically go down; however, since this situation has occurred so often, we’ve setup player limitations for each area as a countermeasure to prevent server crashes. With these countermeasures in place, Behemoth and Odin will display properly so that players can defeat them, and as more and more people obtain their rewards, the number of people focusing on them will gradually ease up. With that said, getting these enemies to display properly will be our highest priority.
In Regards to Cheating
A: We take cheating very seriously, and plan to do everything we can to ban cheatersas we continue to address this issue. As subscription based games are on the decline, RMT are gathering by the masses in the games that a lot of people are playing. Because free to play games already have items you can buy for real money, RMT cannot make money off of these games.
Right now, the most notable form of cheating is the use of bots that automatically defeat enemies, gather materials, and warp around. Warp cheating is a game of cat and mouse due to the fact that once we perform countermeasures, they find new methods, then we implement countermeasures against this new method, and they find yet another way to do it, but we are proactively addressing this. As for other types of bots, we are placing importance on not making false accusations, so we’re carefully handling each report made with thorough investigations, and we’re cracking down on hundreds of accounts every day. We will not be changing our stance on this, and moving forward we’ll be bolstering the ranks of our Special Task Force. There are a lot of you who wonder why the character you just reported hasn’t been punished yet, but in order to prevent unjust punishments, we need to gather the facts and address each report with the utmost care. We appreciate your cooperation.
There are users who have been streaming while using illegal third-party tools, and even though we’ve addressed this making them no longer useable, there have been reports of players who are still able to use them. Honestly, this is an obstruction of our operation. Players who see this kind of behavior are becoming increasingly worried, and although we tried to play down the issue at first, we will take steps to address this before it gets out of hand. We do not permit the streaming or posting of videos with players using illegal tools, so please avoid doing this.
Q: How do you plan to address network lag in Europe
A: We’ve been receiving a lot of feedback on the EU forums about trouble with ISPs and network setups using WiFi. I believe information has already been shared by the European Community Team, but we would like players experiencing these issues to post further details that indicate the network card they are using, their provider, and any other pertinent information regarding their connections. Once we can define the issue, we would like to contact European providers to address connectivity problems, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us.
Q: Are the number of people logging in decreasing?
A: As FFXIV: ARR is a subscription based business model, naturally there will be players who will not play anymore once they finish the main scenario. MMORPGs that launched after 2008 with a subscription based model retained a maximum of 35% of their users during the first month of subscriptions. However, FFXIV: ARR has surpassed this number by a wide margin. That’s not to say that we’re satisfied with our current figures, and we’d like as many people as possible to subscribe and play the game. My plans with FFXIV 1.0 were the same, but we would like to first deliver exciting and fun content to all the players who are playing the game. With a steady income from monthly fees, we can then continue to provide constant updates, and by doing this, players who once left will likely return. I feel it is extremely important to continue to do this for subscription based MMORPGs these days, and we’ll be making sure to see this through.

Q: What are the requirements to own a house?
A: You will need to increase the rank of your free company to the point where you have permission to buy a house. After this you just need to buy the deed to the land and house.
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won’t have any system like that.
Q: Can you take out a loan?
A: We’ve been asked this a lot, but there are problems with how it would be collected, repayment, and other such aspects that would just make it too similar to real life, so we’re not planning to have this at the moment.
Q: How much land are you planning to implement within a housing area instance?
A: Thirty houses can be built within one instance. There will also be multiple levels for an instance. There will be a bunch of land with the same geography, and you can purchase the land that is unoccupied.
Q: Please show us the flow from buying a house up to arranging furniture.
A: The general flow will be as follows.
*This is demonstrated in the video.
A house will not be built when you purchase your land. Once you buy the deed to your house, you can preview what kind of house you would like to build from the housing menu. When you select your deed, a confirmation window will appear asking if you are sure you want to build the house, and if you select “Yes” your house will be built. It’s an extremely simple process. Right after you build it, its appearance including doors and windows, will be standard, but by performing various actions you’ll be able to swap out parts of the house.
Changing Exterior Parts
If you select the exterior from the housing menu, you’ll see options that allow you to change the house’s outer appearance and purchase additional exterior parts, which are sold in stores. When opting to change the exterior, a specialized screen similar to the equipment screen will appear for your house. In the upper portion of this screen, the various parts of the house will be displayed, and you can change them out by dragging and dropping just like when you’re equipping your character. The parts will feature preset colors, but you’ll be able to change them. Additionally, the lower portion of this window contains optional aspects, and you can customize the settings of various parts such as lamps that shine at the entrance and roof decorations. This is where you set up all of your house’s exterior parts, and we’ll be preparing a ton of them, so be sure to try them all out and create your dream home.
Placing Garden Furnishing
Next up, we have the garden layout. From the housing menu, you can select an option to place garden furnishings to organize garden-related objects. By selecting the items you wish to place from your inventory, you can drag them directly to a desired location. Then you can switch to rotation mode and adjust their orientation. We decided to split the positioning and rotation because a single interface for both would become a bit complicated. The garden objects you placed will then appear in the garden object list. Naturally, you’ll be able to sit down on the benches that you place and jump on top of objects as well.
* In-game footage of the Small size house from Lima Lominsa is shown in the video.
Q: Can you change the music that plays inside your house?
A: While it won’t be in patch 2.1, we have plans to introduce a jukebox. By crafting one of these and placing it in your house, you’ll be able to play your favorite FFXIV: ARR music. I’m sure you would all like to be able to change the music depending on your mood, or play a free company member’s battle theme before they run off to a dungeon, so we’d like to make this happen.
Q: Will we be able to store items within the furniture?
A: This will not be possible. Currently, the placement data alone has a saved data volume that is unusually large, so trying to implement storage would cause the saved data to become even larger. This doesn’t mean that there are no plans for this in the future, but as all of your data is periodically written into the backend database, increasing this too much is directly linked to the risk of data rollbacks. This is very dangerous, so we’d like to proceed with caution. We plan to release housing first, and after we’re sure that everything is running smoothly and expand to individual housing, there is a possibility that save data space can be expanded further.
Q: What happens when you have a house and you disband your free company?
A: Unless you completely dismantle the house you will not be able to disband your free company.
Q: Will there be ways to Return straight to your house?
A: We are planning to implement a feature where you can place an aetheryte at your house and set it as a home point to teleport and return to. We’re cutting it really close, but we’d like to have this in for patch 2.1.
Q: Will we be able to place bulletin boards and signs in front of our houses?
A: We have plans to implement a feature in patch 2.2 that allows players to leave comments on a bulletin board.
* In-game footage of the housing area from Ul’dah is shwon in the video.
Q: Will we be able to garden at our houses?
A: We have plans to allow you to place a croft in your garden and harvest various items from it in patch 2.2. The other day I was asked if my vision was: A – anyone can casually grow things of almost no value; or B – plant rare items, harvest from them, and then use them to grow other things together. I answered B.
Q: Can you make an area in your housing area to practice battle skills and calculate damage?
A: There are already various locations around Eorzea where wooden dummies have been setup, and we’re considering allowing these to be placed inside of your homes as well. While it won’t be available in patch 2.1, we don’t expect it to be that far in the future.
Q: If all of the Large size houses are taken, will you be adding additional instances with L size lands right away?
A: We’ll be sure to add new instances as we keep an eye on the land that is being taken. Our goal is to keep unused land to a minimum, so we’d like to check each instance one by one and add more once they reach a certain percentage.
Q: As there are differences in economies from World to World, will the housing costs differ by World?
A: It will not be different. The price of the buildings will be a fixed amount, but the land will be sold in an auction-like system and start at the highest price. As time passes, the land that has not been sold yet will decrease in price. With that said, players on newly added Worlds that do not have that much gil in circulation can wait for these prices to come down. The price will be reduced every six hours.
* In-game footage of the Small size house from Ul’dah is shown in the video.
Q: Will we be able to place furniture outside of the house?
A: This will not be possible. Garden furnishings are meant for the garden and housing furnishings are meant for the house. They have been specifically set into two different categories so that benches and other items that are similar to housing furnishings can be distinguished easily.
Q: Will it be possible to stack furniture or place objects on top of furniture?
A: Yes, it’ll be possible to place objects such as lamps on top of tables and what not. The amount you can place and what you can place is limited, but you’ll be able to place objects on top of suitable furnishings such as tables and desks.
Q: Will we be able to see the sunlight coming through the windows and also be able to view the scenery from within a house?
A: We’ve made adjustments for the amount of light that enters though the windows, but you will not be able to see the scenery outside. I understand there have been requests for this, but there are a lot of other houses outside and a lot of people passing by, so if we were to make this possible it would cause an increase in the limitations for the objects that can be placed in your houses. We decided to prioritize allowing you to place as many things in your house as possible.
Q: Can you expand to an M size or L size house from an S size house?
A: This is not possible. You would have to tear down your house and build a new one on open land. The reason for this is due to the fact that these houses are shared and the objects that are inside and outside of the house don’t belong to one single person, so you can’t change it back into a deed until you completely disassemble the house. Once you resolve what belongs to who, you can take down your house and then rebuild a new house.
Q: Will we be able to sell our houses (including the furniture)?
A: This will not be possible. You can only trade the deed, so you would have to revert your house back to a deed to do this.
* In-game footage of the Large size house from Ul’dah is shown in the video.
Q: Will you add any feature to prevent FC members from taking the furniture?
A: In the housing permissions settings you can indicate which rank members can do certain things with furnishings.
Q: Are you looking into mini-games or other elements where free company members can gather and play?
A: I think some staff members are starting to think about a card game…
Q: What type of facilities will we have access to within a housing area other than the market board and retainer?
A: First, you can have a crafting workshop in your house to be used by any crafters in your free company. Also, in the event you need a large amount of low level materials for crafting, we’re planning to make it possible to place NPCs in your house that would sell these materials. We’ll be adding on to features such as this over time.
Q: What are the advantages of making things in your underground workshop?
A: You’ll be able to build airships and go adventuring with them. We were stuck on deciding whether to go with boats or airships, but we decided to go with airships first. We’d also like to do boats, but for now crafters will be able to gather together and build airships in these underground workshops. We’d like to introduce this before the first expansion.
Q: Are there any plans to implement any seasonal exteriors for houses (snow-themed exterior during Christmas, witch-themed exterior during Halloween, etc.)?
A: While I don’t want to rule the idea out, I would first like to focus on the implementation of additional housing parts. I do love the idea of seasonal exteriors, but I would prefer something like a blacksmith or armorer-themed exterior which can be then used to sell actual equipment. However, for a house like this, you would not be able to swap out the exterior housing parts. If we made these exteriors customizable, implementation dates will be pushed back due to the vast number of housing parts we have to take into consideration. Please keep in mind that I still like the idea of seasonal housing parts, but I think players will get bored of them, and would have much more fun with content that can be enjoyed for a longer period of time.
We do have plans to implement additional housing parts. While we have many ideas regarding seasonal items, we are currently discussing which ones players will enjoy the most.
* In-game footage of the housing area from Gridania is shown in the video.
Q: Are there fish in the bodies of water in the housing areas?
A: Yes, so get your bait and fishing rods ready!
Q: Will there be any way to you breed animals that drop materials so we can harvest them?
A: Currently we do not have plans for this. There would be a number of problems such as how to design the AI, or how to handle animals if players don’t attend to them. However, as we previously mentioned, the development team has brought up ideas such as being able to release all your minions within a house.
Q: About how much furniture will we have access to when the housing system is implemented?
A: In patch 2.1, without including the exterior parts of a house, there will be about 220 furnishings to choose from (40 exterior furnishings and 180 interior). Please note that this only refers to the initial numbers and more will be added through future patches.
* Video introduces concept art of furniture and equipment.
* In-game footage of the Medium size house from Gridania is shown in the video.
Q: Will we be able to place mannequins within the house so that we can equip them with our armor?
A: The current plan is to implement that feature after patch 2.2.
Q: Will there be frames in which we can place art? If so, will it be possible to take a screenshot and place it within the frame?
A: Yes, there are frames which you can place artwork in. Please check out the various artworks our art team has prepared for you!
As for the screenshot feature, we previously had a request for players to be able to design their free company crest by using screenshots and we stated that it would be difficult to judge what images can and cannot be allowed to be used. Therefore, we currently have no plans for players to be able to use screenshots.
Q: Let’s say we place walls within a large room to separate them into smaller rooms. Will we be able to place doors within the walls?
A: While you will be able to place walls, you will not be able to place doors. After carefully reviewing factors such as collision detection and allocating space for the door to swing open, we determined that it was too difficult to implement doors within the walls.
Q: Can you set individual entrance restrictions for L size houses that have two floors and a basement?
A: No, you cannot.
Q: Will there be a system that allows free companies to collect gil from their members when buying a house?
A: No, there will not.
Q: Can you place an Ishgardian wartable in your house like the ones found in Coerthas (Dragonhead)?
A: We decided to add this based on the community’s feedback.
Q: Will we be able to change the wallpaper and flooring design?
A: Yes, you will.
* Video introduces examples of the wallpaper and flooring design.
* In-game footage of the Small size house from Gridania is shown in the video.
Q: Will there be any interesting furniture such as lights you can turn on and off, cabinets you can open and close, etc.?
A: Yes, you will be able turn the lights on and off. In addition, there will be furniture that is interactive. While there won’t be a great deal of interactive furniture due to the challenges of creating them, we will increase the number of interactive furniture pieces in future patches.
Q: Will we be able to place an aquarium in our houses?
A: While there are currently no plans to implement an aquarium, I’ll be sure to forward the request to the person in charge. We’d first need to have designs drawn up for the aquarium, then create a translucent appearance that’s as realistic as possible, so it’s quite difficult.
Q: When will individual housing be implemented?
A: It will be around half a year after patch 2.1’s release. Currently, we are split between implementing a personal room within a free company house or personal housing. Since the decision will have a huge impact on how many additional servers we’ll need to prepare, we have to carefully consider the balance of the housing system. We believe it will take roughly six months to have everything planned out and prepared.
A: There have been situations where frustration arises when players with different play styles and objectives are matched together with the Duty Finder.
Therefore, we would like to make it possible to play with people who have the same goal as you.
Party Recruitment Bulletin Board
We will be making it so you can recruit party members through a bulletin board-like feature where you will be able to indicate your objective. For example, clearing the main scenario, relaxed party play, putting emphasis on speed and efficiency, etc.
For those that would like to participate in certain content, they’ll be able to form parties with players who have the same goal.
Updates to the Duty Finder
We’ll be having a special edition of the Letter from the Producer LIVE about the details for this, but we’ll be making it so matching occurs on a categorical basis, such as for leveling dungeons, high level dungeons, story, guildhests, and other content. Also, we’ll be making it so you can obtain Allagan tomestomes for each category once a day.
Increasing the methods for acquiring Allagan Tomestones
Currently, due to the fact that there aren’t many areas to obtain Allagan tomestones, players who want to speed through dungeons and those that want to relax a bit more have been overlapping, and this has been causing issues. Therefore, starting with being able to obtain these by being matched for the above categories, we also plan to make it possible to obtain them through new high level dungeons, the Crystal Tower, the primal daily quests, treasure hunting content, and other areas.
With the above, we feel that trouble will be less likely to occur, and you’ll be able to play with the play style of your choice.
Regarding the amount of gil obtained by players, we recently increased the amount of gil you can obtain through the instances. For now, we will monitor how much of an impact this change had on the economy.
The other problem that we identified is that it takes a long time for a gatherer to gain a level at higher levels. This issue ended up overflowing the market with crafting materials. We plan to address this issue by adding new crafting recipes (i.e. weapon, armor, potions used in PvP, etc.) and implementing ways for crafters to burn through materials for the upcoming housing.
We believe these features will invigorate the economy so please stay tuned!
A: FFXIV: ARR is comprised of many teams other than the development team, which include the Special Task Force (STF), Game Masters, the Lodestone team, the database team, and many others.
Amongst these teams, small mistakes from each one have been adding up.
When multiple tasks are brought up on the same day, a single lead is often involved in other task as well, and it becomes difficult to handle, the schedules become rough, and we have to make adjustments.
Also, the other day there was a mistake on the GM side with a call that came in, where they accidentally mistook information related to Dragon Quest X. Since the the titles were not separate and everything was sorted by high-priority emergency there were mistakes made.
As these tiny mistakes add up one by one that lead to bigger operational problems, we will be working hard to improve these issues by keeping an eye on the balance with quality, flows, and schedules. We would like to provide you all with the a high-degree of service.
We are currently working very hard to eliminate all of the cheaters in A Realm Reborn.
In the current age where monthly subscription-based games are decreasing rapidly, the RMT are rapidly flocking to the game because of its popularity and how difficult it is for them to make money from the free-to-play MMOs.
Currently, the biggest problems are bots and warpers.
As for the warpers, every time we implement a countermeasure, the RMT will find a to work around it. Since this is a neverending cat-and-mouse game, we are looking into ways to completely eliminate warpers.
As for the bots, we are working as fast as we can to take action based on the reports that we received, but please note that we have to be careful when investigating the reports to avoid taking action on innocent players.
While we do have a tool that automatically detects cheats, the RMT have been implementing workarounds such as adding random factors to appear less robotic. Please note that we can’t go into this much because the RMT may use it to implement additional workarounds. We are carefully investigating the logs and then taking action on those who are identified as cheaters (about a few hundred accounts per day).
We will continue to address the cheaters by increasing the number of employees in the STF department.
Since we are on the topic of cheating, there is another thing I wanted to mention. Recently, a player uploaded a video of them using a third party program. While this cheat was already addressed by us, they made it seem like the cheat was still an ongoing issue. Honestly, this is an interference of our business because it has a huge negative impact on the community. Please note that we will not be taking these actions lightly and plan to take action if it gets out of hand.
While it is okay for players to upload in-game videos of ARR, we never approved the videos of players using third party programs. We appreciate your cooperation regarding this matter.
A: I believe information has already been shared by the European Community Team, but we would like the players experiencing these issues to post further details that indicate the network card they are using, their provider, and other specs that are in use. We would like to ask the European providers to address this, and appreciate your cooperation to help us.
■ In Regards to WAR
■In Regards to Dragoon
We have plans to make numerous adjustments in patch 2.1 other than the items mentioned above. Please stay tuned!
A: There will not be any other costs like this.
A: You will have to increase the rank of your free company.
A: In FFXIV: ARR the maps are made up of 8-meter grids. In a single grid, we’ve set it to display a maximum of 100 players. When this grid contains more than the maximum number of players, there are cases where players and monsters do not appear. In order to address this, we will be managing the display priorities for the entire zone, and when special content like Odin and Behemoth FATEs occur, we make adjustments so that the process prioritizes this so that normal play conditions are possible. We will be making this adjustment in patch 2.1.
A: There will be about 30 houses per instance.
A: (Shows off the content in the video)
A: 85% of the housing will consist of gatherers gathering crafting materials and crafters using those materials to craft items. We will make sure every gathering/crafting class will be able to take part so stay tuned!
A: While it won’t be ready for patch 2.1, we will be making it possible to place a jukebox in your house as a furnishing that will allow you to play music in your house.
A: While we currently do not have any plans to do so, we will look into it once we have confirmed the stability of the housing system (mainly the amount of memory it will consume). If it does happen, it will be some time after the 2.1 patch.
A: Unless you abandon your house you cannot disband a free company.
A: Yes, you will.
A: We are currently working hard to make it possible to place an aetheryte at your house in 2.1, but it’s cutting it close at the moment.
A: We do have plans to implement a feature in patch 2.2 wherein players will be able to leave a comment on a bulletin board.
A: We are planning to have this after patch 2.2.
A: We do have plans to implement a feature in patch 2.2 wherein players will be able to place a field within the garden area. Players will be able to grow items obtained through gathering and obtain rare items that can only be obtained through the gardening feature.
A: There are already a bunch of wooden dummies around Eorzea, and we are planning to make it possible to place them in your house.
A: We have plans to add more lands after we confirm the opening of the other areas.
A: It will be the same for all Worlds. The land for housing will be an auction system, and will start from a high price and over time will become cheaper.
A: Furniture will be separated into 2 types. Those that can only be placed within a house and those that can only be placed outside of a house.
A: Yes, you will be able to do this.
A: While you will be able to adjust how much sunlight will come through the windows, you will not be able to view the scenery while you are within a house.
A: You won’t be able to make changes like this when it is built. You will have to build a new one on open land.
A: No, you will only be able to sell the land rights.
A: We plan on having this after patch 2.2.
A: Yes. You will be able to set permissions of who can and cannot move/take the furniture within a house.
A: While we don’t have any specific plans at the moment, we’d like to start thinking about things like this that we can do.
A: We have plans to add facilities such as crafting facilities and NPCs that you can buy crafting materials from. Please stay tuned!
A: We are planing to make it so you can build airships and access content.
A: The current plan is to implement some time after patch 2.3.
A: Yes! And of course you can fish!
A: We do have plans to implement additional housing parts. While we have many ideas regarding seasonal items, we are currently discussing which one of those the players will enjoy the most.
A: Currently we do not have plans for this.
A: In patch 2.1, there will be about 40 exterior furniture and 180 interior furniture to choose from (and that’s not including the parts of the housing exterior!).
A: Yes, you can.
A: The current plan is to implement that feature some time after patch 2.2.
A: Yes. However, it won’t be possible to decorate the pictures with screenshots.
A: While you will be able to place walls, you will not be able to place doors.
A: No, you cannot.
A: We currently do not have any plans to implement that feature.
A: We plan on implementing this.
A: Yes, you will be able to change the wallpaper and the flooring design.
A: Yes, there will be.
A: While we currently do not have any plans to implement an aquarium, I’ll be sure to forward the request to the person in charge.
A: It will be around half a year after patch 2.1’s release.
Am tentatively planning on getting up early for this one. For the live translation please visit Reinheart’s channel: http://www.twitch.tv/reinheartv

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part VIII Q&A
* The video begins by showing an in-game demo of fishing.
Q: Show us fishing!
A: Sorry to keep you all waiting. Fisher will be implemented in Beta Test phase 4.
There are not a whole lot of actions to be used for fishing, and the basic actions begin the fishing process by casting your line and then hooking your target. However, which bait you use is very important and we’ve prepared a ton of different bait. Depending on where you fish, the requirements will change and you’ll have to decide if you need to use bait, what type of bait, and if using not bait, whether you use a lure or not. If you’re using the wrong lure at a fishing spot, a message will appear and let you know that something is not right.
There is also a special log specifically for fishers known as the “Fishing Log.” When you open it up, it will display a map of the area where you are currently fishing, and orange markings will be displayed. These are known as fishing spots. We’ve set a lot of fishing spots in a single area, and there are a variety of spots, such as lakes, rivers, and the sea. At first, these spots will be shown as “Unknown fishing spot,” but as you continue to fish, these spots will open up. There is a ton of data that is released in-game for FFXIV: ARR, but for our intrepid fishers, we’d like players to fish at various fishing spots throughout Eorzea and discover things for themselves. There are also tons of different fish, and we’ll add even more as we add areas and have updates. Not only types, but there is a “fishing result record” and your highest records for the fish you caught will be recorded and updated when you catch something even bigger.
We also have something we call mooching. For fishing up certain rare fish, you’ll have to first fish up bait at the fishing spot, and then use that to fish to attract even larger prey. There are also fish that can only be caught at night or during days with good weather. Additionally, once you reach a high level, you can do sand sea fishing, fish from seas of clouds, and various other places.
Following the concept that I spoke about previously, the system is extremely simple, so please have a good time fishing at various areas as you fill in the map while you wait to be matched in the Duty Finder, or while waiting for your friends to log in. However, due to the fact that this system is simple, please understand that you will not be contributing to the economy despite being a Disciple of the Land. The fishing system of FFXIV: ARR is there to have fun challenging and interacting with the nature found throughout Eorzea.
Q: When is Open Beta and Early Access?
A: Beta Test phase 4 will run from Saturday, August 17, until Monday, August 19.
Those who participated in the Beta Test phase 3 will be able to participate from Friday, August 16.
Early Access will begin on Saturday, August 24 and it will be possible to play straight into official service. We do not plan on conducting any maintenance in the period between Early Access and the start of official service. At some time on August 27, it will become possible to register the registration codes for the official release version. Also at that time, the pre-order bonus and Collector’s Edition bonus in-game items will be sent to users via the in-game delivery moogle.
Q: What type of restrictions (including the level cap) will be implemented in phase 4?
A: The level cap will be lower than that of phase 3 and it has been set to level 20. This is because we are considering Beta Test phase 4 to be the trial version since anyone can participate, so we do not want everyone to see too far ahead. Likewise, the content as well will be limited to that which is possible up until level 20.
However, the content you can experience up to level 20 will include all of the cutscenes, voice overs, and it is exactly the same as the retail version of ARR.
Q: Is there anything you would like for us to test specifically in phase 4?
A: Yes, there are two things we would like you to test in phase 4.
The first is a test for the graphics of the housing zones that we’ve talked about in previous Letter from the Producer LIVEs. When implementing the housing zones, we’d like to release it with as many customizable aspects as possible, and make it so you can adjust the appearance of your house, the color of the roof, the type of roof, the shape of the windows, the placement of objects in your yard, and much more. Due to this, the system will be placing a lot of stress on hardware, but we’ve done our best to follow our policy of making it high quality yet as light as possible, and have made it as close to the line of the highest quality as possible. We’d like all of you to test it out, so we’ve added the La Noscea housing zone with pre-built customized houses. While it won’t be possible to enter the houses, we’d like everyone to check out the outside.
The second is the PvP system. Until now we’ve been developing two kinds of PvP systems, the coliseum and the front lines, with the coliseum system coming first; however, the official name for this has been finalized and it will be known as “The Wolves’ Den.” In phase 4, we’d like players to test out the basics of the PvP system, and we will be checking the distance that your attacks register against other players, as well as how much we need to increase the accuracy of players’ packet matching. However, PvP-specific actions will not be implemented, so we’d like to have you test this out by using basic attacks. With the results of the test, we will be fine tuning the data packets and checking the lag, and plan on releasing the content in patch 2.1. Once implemented, we will have all of the PvP actions available as well as PvP equipment and other rewards.
However, there is one thing I would like to mention. As it will not be possible to enter the Wolves’ Den if you are not level 30, we will need the assistance of our version 1.0 players that have existing characters, because the phase 4 level cap will be set to level 20.
Q: Will the arcanist class be available in phase 4?
A: Yes. As I mentioned before, phase 4 is the same as the retail version, so arcanist will be available.
Q: Can you show us some in-game footage of arcanist, summoner, and scholar?
A:*In-game footage of arcanist, summoner, and scholar is shown in the video.
Q: When using the Duty Finder as an arcanist, what role will they be set as?
A: There are a lot of people who have been assuming that arcanist fits in the healer role, but they’re actually a DPS. However, they can heal a bit as they possess a healing spell known as “Physick.” Also, since they are a pet class, they have an array of pet actions, and of these they have an action called “Sustain” which will use your own HP to heal your pet. One way you can fight is by having your pet attack a monster, and use “Sustain” when your pet’s HP gets low.
Q: Will the arcanist’s attribute points be shared between summoner and scholar?
A: They will be shared. Up until level 50 the equipment has stats that support both. Summoners will focus on INT, while scholars will focus on MND; however, this is because their roles are different as one is a DPS and the other is a healer. After level 50, you will have to select which you would like to specialize in by selecting the appropriate equipment.
Q: Are there any plans to implement additional egi?
A: I believe this will happen when we raise the level cap.
Q: Just like how arcanist has summoner and scholar with differing roles, I’m sure in the future there will be other classes that have different branching roles. What kind of jobs are you planning to add to classes?
A: Of course we have plans. It’s probably a bit early to talk about this, but we have rough plans for the expansion, which we’re calling 3.0, how the main story will progress in real-time in the patches leading up to it, scenarios that give the world a feeling of being alive, and in what time frame we provide content. Naturally we are planning various things, but I can’t say any more than this. Once the time is right, I’ll tell you all about it.
Q: Will there be any additional payment methods other than credit card and Square Enix Crysta?
A: Yes, we will be introducing “game time cards” which can be purchased at your nearest electronic store or convenience store. By registering the code on the back of the card, you’ll be able to add 30 days or 60 days of game time. There are various designs and they will be available in other countries as well, so this will add yet another method of paying for the game.
* Various game time cards are shown in the video.
* Please note that the usage of game time cards may vary from region to region.
Q: Are you planning to have a world transfer service?
A: As this is a game with world barriers, there are a variety of situations that may arise. You could meet a friend that happens to play XIV, but your servers are different and you want to play together. Or you could make a friend while using the Duty Finder and wish to switch over to their world, so we’ll be providing a world transfer service for these occasions. This will be a fee-based service that will allow you to transfer to the world of your choice, and it will be possible to transfer up to 8 of your characters. We plan on launching this service around 2-3 weeks after launch.
Q: When will the smart phone application be released?
A: First, we’ve decided on the official name for the application – “Libra Eorzea.” By logging into the application with the Square Enix Account tied to your service account, you can view all of your character data and other information. You will also be able to research items, equipment levels, find out how items are obtained, how to receive quests, quest levels, and how much experience points you can gain from within the database. Also, the database in the application is linked to the Lodestone database, so you’ll be able to write strategy information on the dungeon maps and supplement strategy information.
The application will be available for free. As the application has in-game information, the iOS version will first be released one week after launch, and the Android version will be released roughly one month after that.
* The video shows off a brief demo of the Libra Eorzea application.
Q: In the Player Feedback Status List you mentioned “it’s thought that players would wait until the last minute to repair gear. Doing this would cause a lot of stress worrying about gear damage while playing content when your gear is nearly broken, so we’ve made it so that regardless of when you repair your gear the cost does not change.” However, this is a strange reason to do this. Please go into more details about the thought process behind this.
A: As you have mentioned, it’s in fact the opposite. This was something I missed, and we’ve implemented it the opposite way in Beta 4. I apologize for the mistake.
By the way, when a party completely wipes, we have eased on up the penalty where equipment durability is reduced. We received feedback that players didn’t like how parties would immediately disband when failing Ifrit, and other primal battles, and in phase 4 we’ve made it possible to retry these battles without the group disbanding, which would cause durability to drop considerably.
Q: Will we ever be able to transfer item/gil between characters on the same account and World?
A: We currently have no plans to implement this feature. We would like to guard against RMT being able to earn gil in mass quantities; however, as we are still unsure of the methods they will employ to generate gil, we like to look at conditions carefully and once we confirm that the elements we are concerned with are safe, there is a possibility that we open this up to boost conveniences for players. We’d like to remove the motivation for players to participate in RMT-related activities as well as proactively remove behavior that will interrupt gameplay, so we’d like to proceed with this cautiously.
Q: What features will we be able to change in the barber shop?
A: You will be able to change your character’s hairstyle, hair color, eye color, scars, face paint, and face paint color. The barber shop will be released in patch 2.1, so don’t worry too much about not being able to change aspects of the character you initially created.
Q: When will be able to obtain the new “heat resistant” gear?
A: I’m sure there are some newcomers watching, so please allow me to explain. What we refer to as “heat resistant” gear is really just swimwear. FFXIV:ARR and other MMORPGs run 24/7/365 and have seasonal events that follow real-world times and seasons. For FFXIV, in the summer we hold the “Moonfire Faire” event and we are planning to hold it this year as well. This year’s Moonfire Faire will be split up into different phases, and depending on the day the scenario will progress. From a certain phase there will be a scenario that requires you to have heat resistant gear, so you will be able to obtain it from this event. You’ll be able to get your hands on some roughly one week after launch.
* In the video, various equipment that can be obtained from seasonal events is shown.
Q: Please tell us what kind of bosses and mechanics are waiting for us in the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut and the Crystal Tower. Will primal equipment be necessary?
A: Again, as there are most likely newcomers watching, let me explain things in simple terms. The Great Labyrinth of Bahamut will be the hardest content at the start of ARR for a while. It will contain a lot of mysteries such as what happened after the Seventh Umbral event. Naturally I can’t tell you what kind of enemies you’ll be facing, but to give you a few examples mechanics-wise, there will bosses that can only be defeated by performing certain actions and that have different phases. You might start off fighting together as 8, but then have to split into two groups and fight. Without having a party that can deal the proper amount of damage, you won’t be able to move past certain phases.
Due to this, the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut is content that cannot be cleared unless you go around to other content first and gather up gear to prepare. Additionally, there will be shared damage type of attacks that you will need to have 4 people get hit by, as well as have a certain character act as a channeler for the damage. We’ve implemented a lot of different elements that we weren’t able to include in 1.0, so please look forward to it.
Crystal Tower is a 24-person alliance raid. Though the tower is actually completed, we’re currently adjusting the difficulty as we thought the difficulty might have been a bit too hard and felt it would be better to make content that allows you to enjoy the world of FINAL FANTASY by progressing through gigantic boss battles with alliances formed through the Duty Finder. Due to this it will be implemented in patch 2.1
Q: Will the primal battles be the same as what they were in 1.0?
A: Amongst 1.0 players, there are a lot of people who possess job-specific weapons and can deal a good amount of damage. With that said, strategies used in 1.0 will work, but there are some aspects that will be surprising. We are planning to add other primal battles from here on out, and we will be making the battles with a lot of variety. Please look forward to it.
Q: Will we ever be able to send tells from within an instanced area?
A: From a system perspective it may be possible; however, we’ve currently disabled all tell-related systems within dungeons. The reason being that you will be randomly grouped up with a vast number of people when using the Duty Finder, and because of this, there may be players who verbally abuse and harass others, so we are considering this carefully.
Also, we’re currently planning expansion elements to the Duty Finder feature, and among these elements we are looking into a system where you can communicate together with everyone. We’re planning to make it possible to send tells when these expansion elements are implemented.
Q: Will we be able to fight the primal “Good King Moggle Mog XII” in ARR?
A: We plan on implementing this in patch 2.1.
From a lore-perspective, Good King Moggle Mog XII is not a primal and is introduced as a sort of fairy tale which became real due to the effects of the Seventh Umbral Era. Due to this, we have to have a proper story for his appearance in ARR, and we will be implementing this via a scenario in patch 2.1.
Also, in 1.0 only certain primal battles had a hard mode known as “extreme,” but in ARR we will be adding “extreme” modes to all primal battles, so please look forward to it.
By the way, you can consider the story-based battle as the easy mode, the high level fight as normal mode, and then “extreme” as hard mode. However, as we continue to patch the game, we plan on gradually easing up on the difficulty.
Q: We’ve already seen chocobos and magitek armor mounts, but will you be adding even more?
A: * The video introduces the unicorn mount.
The unicorn mount will be added for the official release, and you can obtain it by playing through the conjurer class quest line. Once you obtain it you can ride it as other classes and jobs. Also, depending on the race, female characters will ride the unicorn sidesaddle. We’ll be making it possible to obtain various types of mounts moving forward.
Q: You previously mentioned that you might restrict the number of times we are able to roll a “NEED” lot on loot. Have you decided if any restrictions will be in place?
A: Besides the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut, we’ve completed the difficulty adjustments for content, and as a result of checking all of the clear rates and reward drop rates we’ve come to the conclusion that there is no need for these limitations when the game is released.
Q: The starting stats are different for each race, but will these variations only be marginal when reaching level 50 or will differences arise?
A: It will be a marginal difference. It’s at the level where you don’t even need to worry about it, so please select the race that you prefer.
Q: If you make it possible to transfer items between characters on the same account, and you can transfer relics or other Unique/Untradable items, would it be possible to equip them on the character you transfer the items to?
A: No, this will not be possible. If it were possible, after obtaining some difficult to obtain job-specific equipment, you would be able to pass it around to other characters and as a result players who have job-specific gear but have no idea how to play their class or job at very high levels might end up in end-game content that they cannot clear.
For example, playing as a paladin and earning Bahamut-level gear for black mage by using a greed lot. Even if you were to level on another character to be able to equip it, it doesn’t mean you understand the intricacies of the job enough to challenge that hardcore content.
Q: When will the job-specific armor for the companions be implemented?
A: They will be available at launch and you can obtain them through high-level FATEs and other things. Also, minions will also be quest rewards and you’ll be able to obtain them as rewards for defeating bosses in instanced dungeons.
Q: Can you show us any images of the furniture that we can place within our houses?
A: * In the video, concept artwork is shown that introduces a variety of furniture.
Q: I’ve heard that there is going to be darklight armor for white mages. Is this true?
A: Yes, but not only for white mages; we will have it for all jobs including black mage.
Q: Is there any new information on the “rare weapon apperance” system? And when implemented, what will happen balance-wise with raid weapons and armor?
A: Currently, as we have quite a lot of equipment in ARR with high item levels, we are planning to discuss this afterwards. At launch we will have high-tier, unique looking equipment that elicits flashy effects, and we’ve reached the conclusion that there is no need to implement this system at this point in time. Also, in regards to the balance with other equipment when this system is implemented, we are imagining a system where you can change the appearance of equipment above a certain strength to be unique, so there is no need to worry about stat balancing with other equipment.
Q: What’s the status of the marriage system?
A: We’d like to implement this as soon as possible. We are planning to make it so you can have an elaborate wedding celebration inviting as many people as possible.
Q: When we change our grand company, we are unable to equip any of our previous grand company gear. Could you let us convert our previous gear into seals?
A: As we continue to update the story moving forward, the positions of the three grand companies will change. We consider one aspect of role-playing to move to the grand company that best fits your personal policies. As we do not want you regretting decisions to exchange it or get rid of it, we’ve just locked it so you cannot use it until you go back to the respective grand company.
Q: In addition to primal battles, will you also be implementing hard-mode for instanced dungeons?
A: Yes, we will.
Q: There are a number of primal battles in ARR, but will there be a Morbol’s Wrath kind of primal battle?
A: Well, we have a high level FATE known as “Good to Be Bud,” so please try and find it.
Q: Show us the Ul’dah and Gridania housing areas!
A: We should be able to show you these in the next Letter from the Producer LIVE.
Q: What’s the status of the treasure map idea?
A: We are currently developing this to be a large-scale game using field areas. We’d like to implement this as soon as possible with content that has a beastmen tribe with daily quest content as well as treasure hunts. We’re planning for this content to be done either solo or with a light party, so please look forward to it.
Q: Will the Free Company housing be in the area of the Grand Company we belong to?
A: There are no real restrictions, so you can build your house in the location of your choice.
Q: Will housing areas be implemented in Coerthas and Ishgard in the future?
A: If there are enough requests for living in extremely cold areas we can look into it.
Q: Will we be able to clear all job quests solo?
A: In ARR, we’ve made it so as long as you can utilize the skills of your class/job well, then you will be able to clear the quests solo. It will also be possible to obtain your job-specific equipment solo.
Q: Will you be able to have your minions run loose in your house or set them up as furniture?
A: We’ll let the lead know you’re interested in this.
Q: When randomly choosing content through the Duty Finder you said that the rewards will become significantly better, but exactly what kind of rewards get better?
A: We plan on implementing this system in patch 2.1 when we add dungeons for level 50 characters.
The rate and number of tokens you can obtain will increase. By collecting these, you can exchange them for equipment. For example, if you are having trouble defeating the hard Ifrit battle and cannot obtain the rewards, you can use the equipment obtained with tokens to boost your strength and challenge Ifrit once again.
Q: I heard that you can reallocate your attribute points, but will this be something you can do easily multiple times?
A: You’ll be able to use a special item you can obtain by exchanging a certain amount of another item, but it won’t be something you can do so easily. For example, it’s not like you will be able to allocate them so today you can challenge the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut as scholar, and tomorrow allocate them so you can go as summoner.
Q: Could you provide us more information on when we will be able to develop add-ons and when official add-ons will be released?
A: We’ve just begun working on the environment that players can use to create add-ons. We’ve been receiving a lot of feedback and have managed to increase the completion rate of the base aspects, and once we develop the tool based on this we will be distributing it to players and letting you make your own. It’ll be possible to make these add-ons in approximately 6-8 months after launch.
Q: Could you show us some in-game footage of PvP?
A: * The video shows in-game footage of the Wolves’ Den PvP area.
The Wolves’ Den is a fighting arena that was made through the cooperation of the three city-states, and can be accessed by boat from the Moraby Drydocks. In the Wolves’ Den, there is a PvP ranking board. The fighting arena was placed inside a crater formed from a meteor that fell during the Seventh Umbral Era, and there is a PvP registration area as well as a shop in the structure alongside it.
By speaking to the NPC at the registration area, the Wolves’ Den will be added to the Duty Finder, and you will then be able to participate in PvP right from the Duty Finder.
Q: When coming back for ARR, I heard there would be a Welcome Back Campaign, but could you tell us the time period and other details for this?
A: As we announced previously, we will be providing the ARR client for free to those who played version 1.0. These players can play for free until September 9, 2013. Even if you only used the 30 day free period during 1.0’s service, you’ll be able to take part in this campaign, so please consider coming back to the game.
Q: Are there any plans to implement an item that can be used to change the appearance of our characters?
A: To start off I’d like to explain about our long-term subscription rewards.
We are calling this the “Veteran Reward System” and it’s a feature where you can obtain items and mounts as rewards based on the accumulated subscription period. There are two rewards for 30 days: the Wind-up Cursor (minion) and a phial of Fantasia, which can be used to remake your character’s appearance. After playing an MMORPG for 30 days, you will encounter a lot of cool-looking characters and perhaps find that some of the gear you obtained doesn’t look as good on your character, which may lower your motivation to play as you’d really like to change your character’s appearance. As we’d like you to continue playing FFXIV: ARR for a long time, we’ll be giving you a phial of Fantasia as a reward for playing for 30 days, and you’ll be given the opportunity to revamp you character’s appearance.
Additionally, for 60 days we will be rewarding players with a rare black “heat resistant” gear as well as the “Black Chocobo Chick” minion. For 90 days we will be rewarding players with the “Beady Eye” minion and the “Voidsent Resonator” Ahriman mount. Also, we are planning to add 120 day and 180 day rewards as well when we patch the game.
Furthermore, the unique feature about the system is that players will receive the reward immediately upon subscribing for more than 30 days. For example, if a player subscribes for 90 days, they will immediately receive the reward for subscribing 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days.
* The video shows off in-game footage of the “Wind-up Cursor,” “Black Chocobo Chick,” and “Beady Eye” minions, as well as the “Voidsent Resonator” ahriman mount.
I will be posting my comments and thoughts here throughout the stream! Will need to reload to see any updates
Those who have been beta testing since Phase 4 can start 08/16/2013
– Awwwwwww dangit only 3 days we won’t get a lot done lol, he said 1 week in game before! Oh well, we sorta knew it would be changed anyways
– in a way this is quite a relief, 1) gives them more time to finesse the game, 2) Although excited to start early, was rather worried that it’s unbalanced to give players 2 weeks head start time, this way we get a total of 1 week ‘prep’ time before launch
Q1: When is Open Beta and Early Access?
A1: Beta Test phase 4 will run from August 17-19. Those who participated in the Beta Test phase 3 will be able to participate from August 16th. Early access will run from August 24th until the 26th with official service begins on August 27th, but the servers won’t go down after Early Access, so you’ll be able to play non-stop from August 24th.
Q2: What type of restrictions (including the level cap) will be implemented in phase 4?
A2: First, the level cap for phase 4 will be set to level 20. Therefore, game content will also be restricted to that which can be done within level 20. Please note that the content itself is exactly the same as the retail version of ARR.
Q3: The characters we create in Beta Test phase 4 will carry over to the official release, but will the items, quests, and other data besides our appearance also be carried over?
A3: Yes, everything will be carried over.
Q4: Will a screenshot feature be added to the PlayStation 3 version in Beta Test phase 4?
A4: Yes, we will be implementing this.
Q5: Will the arcanist class be available in phase 4?
A5: Yes, it will be available in phase 4!
Q6: Is there anything you would like for us to test specifically in phase 4?
A6: There are two things we would like you to test in phase 4.
First, we are planning to do a stress test on the housing area (mainly to see how the graphics will stress the system). A housing area will be released in the La Noscea area during the stress test so please come check it out!
Second, the PvP system. While the content was referred to as the “Coliseum” up until now, we have changed it and it is now known as the “Wolves’ Den.” We would like the players to test the basics of the PvP system (i.e. attack ranges, etc.). Therefore, the PvP-specific actions will not be available during the PvP test.
Therefore, you will only be able to use your basic attacks at this time.
However, you must be level 30 to enter the “Wolves’ Den.” Since the level cap of phase 4 is set to 20, we will need the assistance from our Legacy players to test the system out.
Q7: Will the arcanist’s attribute points be shared between summoner and scholar?
A7: No, they will not be shared.
Q8: Are there any plans to implement additional egi?
A8: If we were going to implement additional egi, it would be when we raise the level cap.
Q9: Can you show us some in-game footage of the arcanist, summoner, and scholar?
A9: [In-game footage was shown]
Q10: Just like how arcanist has summoner and scholar with differing roles, I’m sure in the future there will be other classes that have different branching roles. What kind of jobs are you planning to add to classes?
A10: Of course we have plans. It’s probably a bit early to talk about this, but we are of course thinking about plans for how to continue development with the expansion we are referring to as 3.0 and other patches.
Q11: Will there be any additional payment methods other than credit card and Square Enix Crysta?
A11: Yes, we are planning to introduce “game time cards” which can be purchased at your nearest electronic store or convenience store. Players will be able to purchase game time for 30 days, 60 days, and also be able to choose from a variety of designs. These designs will be available in other countries as well so please stay tuned!
(Please note that these details may vary from region to region.)
Q12: Are you planning to have a world transfer service?
A12: As this is a game with world barriers, we will be preparing this service so you can move to the same world as old friends as well as new people you meet and become friends with through the Duty Finder. We plan on starting this fee-based service that will allow you to transfer to the world of your choice around 2-3 weeks after launch. Once we have finalized the details we will be sure to let you know.
Q13: When will the smart phone application be released?
A13: We are currently planning to release the application a week after launch. Please note that the application can be used free of charge.
The application will initially be released for iOS and is named “Libra Eorzea.” Players will be able to view their character information, stats of items, quests, instanced dungeons, etc.
Also, the application will be linked with the database that will be placed on the Lodestone.
Q14: In the Player Feedback Status List you mentioned “it’s thought that players would wait until the last minute to repair gear. Doing this would cause a lot of stress worrying about gear damage while playing content when your gear is nearly broken, so we’ve made it so that regardless of when you repair your gear the cost does not change.” However, this is a strange reason to do this. Please go into more details about the thought process behind this.
A14: As you’ve said, it shouldn’t be a flat rate. Sorry about that. We missed this edit. In Beta Test phase 4, the repair cost will change depending on the amount of durability remaining instead of a flat rate. By the way, when retrying primal battles and such, gear durability will be reduced quite a bit, so we will be easing up on the penalties when the entire party wipes.
Q15: Will we ever be able to transfer item/gil between characters on the same account and World?
A15: We currently have no plans to implement this feature do to various reason such as preventing RMT from abusing the feature.
Q16: What features will we be able to change in the barber shop?
A16: You will be able to change your character’s hairstyle, hair color, eye color, face paint, color of the face paint, and beard. We currently plan to release the barber shop feature in patch 2.1 (initial patch), so please don’t stress too much when creating your character!
Q17: When will be able to obtain the new “heat resistant” gear?
A17: The new “heat resistant” gear will be available during one of the seasonal events called the “Moonfire Faire.” The seasonal event should be introduced around a week after launch. Please note that the heat resistant gear will be swimsuits!
Q18: Will the primal battles be the same as what they were in 1.0?
A18: There are slight changes (some of the elements are moved around, introduced a variety of visual notifications, etc.) made to the primal battles. Even the 1.0 players will be surprised of the changes. Please stay tuned!
Q19: Please tell us what kind of bosses and mechanics are waiting for us in the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut and the Crystal Tower. Will primal equipment be necessary?
A19: As there are most likely newcomers watching, let me explain simply to start off. The Great Labyrinth of Bahamut will be the hardest content at the start of ARR for a while. It will contain a lot of things such as what happened after the Seventh Umbral event. While I can’t really say too much about the mechanics, there will bosses that can only be defeated by performing certain actions and that have different phases. Without having a party that can deal the proper amount of damage, you won’t be able to move past certain phases. Additionally, there will be shared damage type of attacks that you will need to have 4 people get hit by, as well as have a certain character act as a channeler for the damage. There will be a lot of different elements present.
The Crystal Tower is content that can be undertaken by a 24 person party. I don’t think that difficulty is really that hard, and we’ve adjusted it so it’s something that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Q20: Will we ever be able to send tells from within an instanced area?
A20: While the feature can be implemented, it’s currently masked. It’s currently masked because we would like to prevent players from harassing each other just because they know they would never party together in the future. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully as we move forward.
Q21: Will we be able to fight the primal “Good King Moggle Mog XII” in ARR?
A21: “Good King Moggle Mog XII” will be introduced in patch 2.1. Oh, on a side note, we plan to implement “extreme” versions of all the primals!
Q22: We’ve already seen chocobos and magitek armor mounts, but will you be adding even more?
A22: [Video introduces the unicorn mount.]
Q23: You previously mentioned that you might restrict the number of times we are able to roll a NEED on loot. Have you decided if any restrictions will be in place?
A23: After discussing the matter internally, we have decided not to implement any restrictions on the looting system.
Q24: The starting stats are different for each race, but will these variations only be marginal when reaching level 50 or will differences arise?
A24: It will be marginal.
Q25: When will the job-specific armor for the companions be implemented?
A25: They will be available at launch.
Q26: If you make it possible to transfer items between characters on the same account, and you can transfer relics or other Unique/Untradable items, would it be possible to equip them on the character you transfer the items to?
A26: No, if it’s for the above stated items, you wouldn’t be able to equip them unless they were acquired on that character.
Q27: Can you show us any images of the furniture that we can place within our houses?
A27: [Artwork shown]
Q28: I’ve heard that there is going to be a darklight armor for white mages. Is this true?
A28: Yes, it is true!
Q29: What’s the status of the marriage system?
A29: We’d like to implement this as soon as possible in a way you can invite a lot of people
Q30: Is there any new information on the “rare weapon apperance” system?
A30: After discussing the matter internally, we came to a conclusion that we are not ready to implement the system because of the various unique-looking weapons we have in the game. The basic idea behind the system is that players will be able to change the appearance of their weapon to something unique. It’s strictly a visual thing and it won’t have any impact on the stats.
Q31: In addition to primal battles, will you also be implementing hard-mode for instanced dungeons?
A31: Yes, we will.
Q32: There are a number of primal battles in ARR, but will there be a Morbol’s Wrath kind of primal battle?
A32: Well, we’ve implemented a high level morbol FATE, so please try and find it!
Q33: Show us the Ul’dah and Gridania housing areas!
A33: We should be able to show you next Letter from the Producer LIVE.
Q34: Are there any surprise announcements you are hiding and planning to mention right before launch?
A34: I’m pretty sure we said quite a lot today…
Q35: Will the Free Company housing be in the area of the Grand Company we belong to?
A35: There are no real restrictions on this, so you can build your house in the location of your choice.
Q36: What’s the status of the treasure map idea?
A36: Being able to play this content is not very far away. We are planning on fleshing out the system for a beastmen tribe related to treasure maps.
Q37: Will housing areas be implemented in Coerthas and Ishgard in the future?
A37: After implementing the housing area in the initial three regions, we will add housing areas to other regions if we receive enough requests!
Q38: Will you be able to have your minions run loose in your house or set them up as furniture?
A38: I think it would be possible, so I will let the lead know
Q39: When we change our grand company, we are unable to equip any of our previous grand company gear. Could you let us convert our previous gear into seals?
A39: We would like our players to choose their grand company based on their play styles. This also means that we assume players may go back to their original grand company at some point. Therefore, we currently have no plans to implement a trade-in feature.
Q40: When randomly choosing content through the Duty Finder you said that the rewards will become significantly better, but exactly what kind of rewards get better?
A40: The percentage of tokens you can obtain will increase. We’ve decided to implement this once we add a bit more level 50 dungeons
Q41: I heard that you can reallocate your attribute points, but will this be something you can do easily multiple times?
A41: It won’t be something you can do so easily. For example, it’s not like you will be able to allocate them so today you can challenge the Great Labyrinth of Bahamut as scholar, and tomorrow allocate them so you can go as summoner.
Q42: Could you show us some in-game footage of PvP?
A42: [In-game footage of the PvP area shown]
Q43: Could you provide us more information on when we will be able to develop add-ons and when official add-ons will be released?
A43: We just started working on an environment that players can use to create add-ons. Therefore, we should be able to provide an update around 8 months after launch.
Q44: When coming back for ARR, I heard there would be a Welcome Back Campaign, but could you tell us the time period and other details for this?
A44: Those of you who played FFXIV 1.0 will be able to play ARR free until September 9, 2013.
Q45: Are there any plans to implement an item that can be used to change the appearance of our characters?
A45: Before I answer that question, let me tell you about a discussion that happened during one of the shareholder meetings. One of the shareholders asked me “Are there any rewards for playing the game for a long period?”
The following was my answer to their question:
The feature you are referring to is called the veteran reward system. Players will receive rewards based on the accumulated subscription period. While there are many subscription plans in ARR, players will receive rewards for every 30 days of subscription.
Reward for subscribing 30 days:
– Wind-up Cursor (minion)
– Phial of Fantasia (Used to change the appearance of your character)
Reward for subscribing 60 days:
– Cascadier Uniform Voucher (Grants black “heat resistant gear”)
– A Black Chocobo Chick (minion)
Rewards for subscribing 90 days:
– Beady Eye (Ahriman minion)
– Voidsent Resonator (Ahriman mount)
Furthermore, the unique feature about the system is that players will receive the reward immediately upon subscribing for more than 30 days. For example, if a player subscribes for 90 days, they will immediately receive the reward for subscribing 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days.
Please note that we will continue to implement additional rewards (120 days, 180 days, etc.) via future patches.
