So You Just Hit Level 50 in FFXIV Patch 2.1 – Guide by CrabCommander

I’ve been meaning to write something up for myself just to get everything straight and stored away somewhere not in my brain. And voila! Someone already did it, huzzah for lazy enabled taru /bounces around. Thanks CrabCommander for compiling this quick To-Do list that I can just link to my buddies  as more and more of then are hitting cap.


So you just hit 50, and now you’re wondering where to go from here. Well, I don’t think anyone can tell you explicitly what should be done in exactly what order, and you certainly can skips steps, but here’s the most gentle slope for introduction to end-game.

  1. Fresh 50? Ready to see what the world has to offer? Lets get to it then.
    • Finish Your Job/Story Quests – Your Job quests will net you your last skills and your Artifact gear. Do them. The main quest up through Praetorium is required for practically all other Level 50 content.
    • Replace Your Trash Items – If you have any items below iLevel 45, they should probably be replaced with crafted/purchased items. You should pay particular attention to your weaponry.
    • Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium – You’ll need to run them once for story, but feel free to run them a few times extra if you like during this stage to acquire more Tomestones of Philosophy and get comfortable with level 50 content.
  2. Time for the basic content! This stuff can be done with your fancy new fresh 50 gear.
    • Ifrit Hard Mode – Unlocked in the Waking Sands, he’s an easy and simple mechanics fight which drops iLevel 60 Weaponry.
    • Wanderer’s Palace and Amdapor Keep – You’ll have to do these anyways for your GC and Relic quest eventually anyways, but they also drop some comfy iLevel 55 gear to get you started, and are an easy completion even in fresh 50 gear (particularly now that AK’s difficulty has been nerfed).
    • Relic Quest Line – It’s probably a good time to start on your Relic Quest. It’ll take you through Chimera, Hydra, and back through the content you’ve completed at this point. At minimum you’ll want it all caught up before you get to Titan some time down the road.
  3. Got a few pieces of iLevel 55? Weapon at least level 55, or an Ifrit weapon if you’re lucky? Good, next step up!
    • Garuda Hard Mode – Like before, unlocked in the Waking Sands, Garuda is a more complex fight, and one which requires some gear at least to pass various checks on your stats. She turns out cool looking iLevel 70 weapons for your trouble.
    • Copperbell HM and Haukke HM – The next step up in 4 Man dungeons, these guys provide a little more challenge, but better rewards, in the form of iLevel 60 gear of all varieties.
    • Pharos Sirius – The hardest of the 4 man dungeons in 2.1, Pharos is a reasonable completion as you near the end of this proverbial tier. Feel free to challenge it for some more iLevel 60 items and fun as you stretch your legs.
    • Darklight Gear – At this point, you’re probably also sitting on a nice stack of Philosophy Tomes. Feel free to turn those guys into some Darklight gear for yourself to start filling in your lower iLevel slots. You’ll need it!
  4. Feeling suave in your mixture of iLevel 55-70 gear? Time to start stepping up your game with the big challenges!
    • Titan Hard Mode – The last barrier in the route to Relic, clearing Titan should be your goal for this tier. The first fight that truly stresses both Mechanics and raw numbers. An HP in the range of 3200+ is an absolute minimum for this fight. Also drops iLevel 80 Weaponry.
    • Good King Moggle Mog XII – Feeling the pain on Titan? Finish pushing through the main story and eventually you’ll run into this guy. He’s a fun fight with a challenge level similar to Garuda HM that drops iLevel 75 Weapons. A helpful stopgap if you find yourself rockblocked by Titan for an extended period of time. Or if you just really like Moogles.
    • AF+1/Heroes Gear – By now you might be sitting on at least a few hundred Myth tomes. Feel free to start changing them in for some iLevel 90 gear in Revenant’s Toll. Even a single piece can drastically boost your stats up at this point.
    • Ultima – The Ultima fight is no joke, with a difficulty level similar to that of Titan. Still, for the adventurous with gear in the iLevel 65+ range, he can be taken down for some solid iLevel 80 Accessories.
    • Crystal Tower – If you can punch your way through the tiresome unlock quest, Crystal Tower can be a nice source of easy iLevel 80 gear. Although you can only walk out with one piece a week. Still, it’ll be better than almost anything else you can get for a while.
  5. Got your Relic? All Pimped out in iLevel 70-80 gear? Maybe a couple Myth tome items? Time for the final steps!
    • The Binding Coil of Bahamut – A Five Part dungeon with high mechanical complexity and numbers. Find yourself a good PUG or Static and have it. Drops some of the best gear in the game. Note: You cannot use the Duty Finder for Coil.
    • Relic Zenith – Save up those 900 Myths over time and upgrade your Relic at Gerolt’s forge for a quick 10 iLevel bonus in stats.
    • Extreme Mode Primals – The alternative option to a Relic +1, clearing all 3 can get you a fancy iLevel 90 weapon as well. You might find yourself needing the Relic +1 though just to get through them. They also drop iLevel 90 accessories and other fun items.

Tomestone farming in #FFXIV post patch 2.05 10/15/2013

With the recent update, additional options are now available when farming Mythology or Philosophy tomestones. I’ve listed what I think is the fastest areas to farm these tokens depending on party make up and efficiency.

Mythology Tomestones

  • Garuda Hard Mode – 170-200 myths per hour – 10 myths per win, 3-3.5 min runs assuming 1 tank, ignore plumes, DPS spam – dependent on gear and weapon check
  • Wanderer’s Palace – 120-170 myths per hour – 30 myths per win, 10.5-15 min runs
  • Amdapor Keep – 120-160 myths per hour – 40 myths per win, 15-20 min runs
  • Binding Coil of Bahamut – 150 myths per 1.5 hour per week – 50 myths per Turn 1, 2 and 4
  • Additional methods of obtaining mythology include Ifrit Hard Mode and Titan Hard Mode

Philosophy Tomestones

  • Wanderer’s Palace – 400-600 philo per hour – 100 philo per win, 10-15min runs
  • Castrum Meridianum, Praetorium and Amdapor Keep – 300-400 philo per hour – 100 philo per win, 15-20 min runs
  • Additional methods of obtaining philosophy are available as bonus tokens earned while doing other content after level 40+, however the three above appears the best farm method.

Playable Content

  • The quest required for promotion to second lieutenant within a Grand Company has been changed.

  • Experience received from miner and botanist guildleves has been increased.
  • Additional details regarding quest progression have been added to the journal entries for the subquest A Relic Reborn.

Battle System

  • In addition to improving instance server stability, additional servers have been added for the following duties:
    • The Wanderer’s Palace
    • Amdapor Keep
  • The number of Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy awarded for completing the following duties has been increased:
    • The Wanderer’s Palace
    • Amdapor Keep
  • The number of Allagan Tomestones of Mythology awarded for completing the following duties has been increased:
    • The Wanderer’s Palace
    • The Howling Eye (Hard)
    • The Navel (Hard)
  • Enemies in the following duties will now drop gil.
    • The Wanderer’s Palace
    • Amdapor Keep
    • Castrum Meridianum
    • The Praetorium
  • Mechanics and enemy positioning have been adjusted in the following duties:
    • The Wanderer’s Palace
    • Castrum Meridianum
  • Karakul can now be found in the following areas:
    • Coerthas Central Highlands – Dragonhead
    • Coerthas Central Highlands – Whitebrim
    • Coerthas Central Highlands – Providence Point
  • The respawn rate of diremites in the North Shroud has been adjusted.

Items

  • The following changes have been made to the materia melding interface:
    • The order of categories in the pulldown menu has been adjusted.
    • A confirmation window will be displayed when converting currently equipped gear into materia.
  • Unused gear will be bound to a character after engaging in battle, crafting, or gathering even once, regardless of item level. 
  • Walnut bread is no longer sold by the Shopkeep NPC located in Eastern Thanalan – Drybone (X:13, Y:24).

System

  • Experience gained by botanists and miners from level 16 onwards has been increased. 
  • The locations of level 30 gathering points in the Central Shroud have been adjusted. 
  • Enhancing effects and enfeebling effects applied to another player or enemy by your character will now always appear to the left of all other status effects underneath the target bar. 
  • Players will only be allowed to create a maximum of eight characters per service account every twenty-four hours. 
    * We have confirmed that RMT groups have been abusing low-level quests to acquire gil by repeatedly recreating characters. We realize this change also affects our customers, and we ask for your understanding as we continue to implement measures to prevent RMT activities.

The following issues have been addressed:

  • An issue wherein players were able to abandon the quest to unlock levequests.
  • An issue wherein a player walking within range of a FATE while progressing certain levequests would cause information such as the timer and progress counter to not update properly (PlayStation 3 version only).
  • An issue wherein players were unable to join an instance via the Duty Finder under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein players occasionally got stuck in the terrain while using the Chocobo Porter.
  • An issue wherein players were detected by monsters while using the Chocobo Porter.
  • An issue wherein aggro lines would occasionally not display properly during the instance “The Howling Eye (Hard).”
  • An issue wherein players were able to fight monsters in the instanced dungeon “Amdapor Keep” without taking any damage.
  • An issue wherein the Duty Finder would replenish party members for the instanced dungeon “Amdapor Keep” after defeating the last boss.
  • An issue wherein monsters in the instanced dungeon “Binding Coil of Bahamut – Turn 5” became immobilized under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein pets were unable to enter a specific room in the instanced dungeon “Haukke Manor.”
  • An issue wherein chests in the instanced dungeon “The Sunken Temple of Qarn” did not include thaumaturge and arcanist weapons within the list of possible rewards.
  • An issue wherein players were not weakened after getting raised.
  • An issue wherein players were unable to use their pet’s actions while casting a spell.
  • An issue wherein the target rings and area-of-effect predictors did not display under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein Eos/Selene did not use Embrace to heal players under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein if a player crafted immediately after receiving benefits from food, the effect of crafting actions were increased by one turn.
  • An issue wherein players occasionally lost the ability to control their character when trying to meld a materia that was restored from a cracked materia.
  • An issue wherein a player’s game client would crash, or they would lose control of their character, if they initiated a trade with another player and the opposing player canceled the trade.
  • An issue wherein a player changing areas after their companion is KO’d would not be able to summon their companion.
  • An issue wherein players were able to target their minion even if it was filtered through the character configuration settings.
  • An issue wherein a player would occasionally target a pet before an enemy when attempting to target the nearest NPC/object.
  • An issue wherein if a player attempted to perform a ground-target action, a point on the ground was selected before the player actually chose it.
  • An issue wherein the game client would occasionally crash if a player inserted text via the “Enter” key under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein a player’s game client would occasionally crash if they moved the Duty List while in the HUD layout mode and then logged out of the game.
  • An issue wherein if a player had their screen resolution set to 480p, their chat window would shift to the right every time they logged into the game (PlayStation 3 version only).
  • An issue wherein the directional pad of a gamepad would be non-responsive when using a certain gamepad (Windows version only).
  • An issue wherein a character’s face would occasionally not display properly if the character was created using saved appearance data.
  • An issue wherein a player would occasionally lose control of the game during the character creation process.
  • An issue wherein a player would occasionally lose control of the game if they continuously attempted to login to a World that is full.
  • An issue wherein the MP value displayed on the “/macroicon” icon does not change when a player gained a level.
  • An issue wherein the text command “/macroicon ‘Jump’” did not display the correct icon.
  • An issue wherein the icon displayed via “/macroicon” did not turn red when the target was not within range.
  • An issue wherein a player would occasionally lose control of the game when they executed the text command “/hotbar” or “/crosshotbar” via their chat window.
  • An issue wherein the job levels (summoner and scholar only) displayed in the Edit Search Info interface was incorrect.
  • Grammatical errors within the text found in the Duty List, Journal, and NPC dialogue.

Countermeasures have been implemented for the following issues:

  • An issue wherein a player would occasionally not be able to progress within an instanced battle.
  • An issue wherein an NPC would occasionally become non-responsive while progressing a quest.
  • An issue wherein the background music and the sound effects would not play properly under certain circumstances.
  • An issue wherein the opening would not play under certain circumstances and prevented the game from starting properly.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – Amdapor Keep Final Boss – Anantaboga Optimal Positioning Guide

This is the best and most optimal positioning for Anantaboga, and really it just makes more sense for the rest of the party. The diagram is below video of a win fight after that.

My first clean run (2nd time in this dungeon) so forgive the bad WHM’ing lol Both runs were when I was super tired. This one was at the end of a long night, the other was when I just woke up at 6am. No excuses though! Must improve /nods

How to Place Pet in #FFXIV

I made this a little bit ago as to respond to a question. It is critical that the scholar faerie pet be placed accordingly. She has a wonderful aoe heal that she spams, but it has a very limited range. She is also more responsive when she’s not furthest away from tank for example. I have noticed that her cure ranges in general are shorter than our own, will need to find time to do more conclusive testing on it.

Also, yes it moves the camera. Almost like fps targeting? I don’t play fps’s but it seems similar to when hubby to use to die to counter strike alot! muahaha

Unlike wow’s placement mechanics which is actually more efficient in hectic fights since you don’t have to swivel your camera here and there to do things. It does take some getting used to. The magic damage limit break for example uses the same tech among other things as well.
