So You Just Hit Level 50 in FFXIV Patch 2.1 – Guide by CrabCommander
I’ve been meaning to write something up for myself just to get everything straight and stored away somewhere not in my brain. And voila! Someone already did it, huzzah for lazy enabled taru /bounces around. Thanks CrabCommander for compiling this quick To-Do list that I can just link to my buddies as more and more of then are hitting cap.
So you just hit 50, and now you’re wondering where to go from here. Well, I don’t think anyone can tell you explicitly what should be done in exactly what order, and you certainly can skips steps, but here’s the most gentle slope for introduction to end-game.
- Fresh 50? Ready to see what the world has to offer? Lets get to it then.
- Finish Your Job/Story Quests – Your Job quests will net you your last skills and your Artifact gear. Do them. The main quest up through Praetorium is required for practically all other Level 50 content.
- Replace Your Trash Items – If you have any items below iLevel 45, they should probably be replaced with crafted/purchased items. You should pay particular attention to your weaponry.
- Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium – You’ll need to run them once for story, but feel free to run them a few times extra if you like during this stage to acquire more Tomestones of Philosophy and get comfortable with level 50 content.
- Time for the basic content! This stuff can be done with your fancy new fresh 50 gear.
- Ifrit Hard Mode – Unlocked in the Waking Sands, he’s an easy and simple mechanics fight which drops iLevel 60 Weaponry.
- Wanderer’s Palace and Amdapor Keep – You’ll have to do these anyways for your GC and Relic quest eventually anyways, but they also drop some comfy iLevel 55 gear to get you started, and are an easy completion even in fresh 50 gear (particularly now that AK’s difficulty has been nerfed).
- Relic Quest Line – It’s probably a good time to start on your Relic Quest. It’ll take you through Chimera, Hydra, and back through the content you’ve completed at this point. At minimum you’ll want it all caught up before you get to Titan some time down the road.
- Got a few pieces of iLevel 55? Weapon at least level 55, or an Ifrit weapon if you’re lucky? Good, next step up!
- Garuda Hard Mode – Like before, unlocked in the Waking Sands, Garuda is a more complex fight, and one which requires some gear at least to pass various checks on your stats. She turns out cool looking iLevel 70 weapons for your trouble.
- Copperbell HM and Haukke HM – The next step up in 4 Man dungeons, these guys provide a little more challenge, but better rewards, in the form of iLevel 60 gear of all varieties.
- Pharos Sirius – The hardest of the 4 man dungeons in 2.1, Pharos is a reasonable completion as you near the end of this proverbial tier. Feel free to challenge it for some more iLevel 60 items and fun as you stretch your legs.
- Darklight Gear – At this point, you’re probably also sitting on a nice stack of Philosophy Tomes. Feel free to turn those guys into some Darklight gear for yourself to start filling in your lower iLevel slots. You’ll need it!
- Feeling suave in your mixture of iLevel 55-70 gear? Time to start stepping up your game with the big challenges!
- Titan Hard Mode – The last barrier in the route to Relic, clearing Titan should be your goal for this tier. The first fight that truly stresses both Mechanics and raw numbers. An HP in the range of 3200+ is an absolute minimum for this fight. Also drops iLevel 80 Weaponry.
- Good King Moggle Mog XII – Feeling the pain on Titan? Finish pushing through the main story and eventually you’ll run into this guy. He’s a fun fight with a challenge level similar to Garuda HM that drops iLevel 75 Weapons. A helpful stopgap if you find yourself rockblocked by Titan for an extended period of time. Or if you just really like Moogles.
- AF+1/Heroes Gear – By now you might be sitting on at least a few hundred Myth tomes. Feel free to start changing them in for some iLevel 90 gear in Revenant’s Toll. Even a single piece can drastically boost your stats up at this point.
- Ultima – The Ultima fight is no joke, with a difficulty level similar to that of Titan. Still, for the adventurous with gear in the iLevel 65+ range, he can be taken down for some solid iLevel 80 Accessories.
- Crystal Tower – If you can punch your way through the tiresome unlock quest, Crystal Tower can be a nice source of easy iLevel 80 gear. Although you can only walk out with one piece a week. Still, it’ll be better than almost anything else you can get for a while.
- Got your Relic? All Pimped out in iLevel 70-80 gear? Maybe a couple Myth tome items? Time for the final steps!
- The Binding Coil of Bahamut – A Five Part dungeon with high mechanical complexity and numbers. Find yourself a good PUG or Static and have it. Drops some of the best gear in the game. Note: You cannot use the Duty Finder for Coil.
- Relic Zenith – Save up those 900 Myths over time and upgrade your Relic at Gerolt’s forge for a quick 10 iLevel bonus in stats.
- Extreme Mode Primals – The alternative option to a Relic +1, clearing all 3 can get you a fancy iLevel 90 weapon as well. You might find yourself needing the Relic +1 though just to get through them. They also drop iLevel 90 accessories and other fun items.
#FFXIV Housing Details from YoshiP
Regarding Housing Price
(My apologies in advance if this post gets a bit wordy.)
Fundamental Pricing Stance
Our fundamental stance toward housing prices was that we wanted to ensure that plots would be evenly distributed, avoiding a situation in which the wealthiest players could easily buy up all available plots of land. Please understand that while we will be adding servers and expanding housing areas as soon as we can, it is simply physically impossible for us to accomplish this easily, in a matter of one or two weeks.
If the initial price of land was easily within the means of wealthy players, one can envision all available plots of land being snatched up immediately, leaving other players—even those possessing the necessary gil—unable to purchase land for an extended period of time. Seeking to avoid this, we made the difficult decision to go forward with the pricing scheme we presented, aware that many players would be unable to afford housing for a while.
Eorzean Economy Review
Before determining the initial (or maximum) prices for land, we conducted an extensive survey of the Eorzean economy across multiple Worlds, including:
- The total amount of gil possessed by all players
- The total amount of gil possessed by all active players on each World
- The number of active free companies and members on each World
- The total amount of gil owned by all active players belonging to each free company on all Worlds
- The amount of gil entering the economy and circulating in the market on a given day in each World
- Distribution of the above (X% belonging to the most wealthy, Y% belonging to the middle class, Z% to the less wealthy, etc.)
Needless to say, RMT traders are served with immediate bans and their gil removed from circulation, so these figures are not included in the above. In addition, to account for gil generated by RMT abuses that might still be in circulation, an additional 10% or so was subtracted from the figures we arrived at.
What we realized from this survey was that the wealthiest players in each world had at their disposal an amount of gil that was considerably higher than one would imagine. In each legacy World, there are more than ten players in possession of over one hundred million gil. Even in non-legacy Worlds, there are a significant number of players with several million gil.
The Future Price of Housing
In conducting this survey, we created a forecast for gil distribution in the three-month period following the release of patch 2.1. In doing so, we anticipated that:
- Players will be seeking to earn more gil than they have thus far, and
- The overall amount of gil generated each day will be higher (in fact, considerably higher) with the release of patch 2.1
…and adjusted our forecast accordingly.
The results of this forecast, with the necessary adjustments for differences between the various Worlds, formed the basis for the depreciated “XX Days Later” prices presented in the patch notes.
With this pricing scheme, we sought a balance in which roughly 80% of all existing free companies will be able to purchase at least a small-sized plot in three months’ time.
I understand that, in taking these measures to ensure even distribution of land, we are asking for considerable patience from those players who are eager to enjoy housing right away. While I sympathize with players concerns, we believe that this is in the best long-term interests of the game.
The Regulation of Starting and Final Prices
As mentioned within the patch notes, we will closely monitor land purchases, and consider revising prices as necessary according to World population and economy. Please keep in mind that prices will decrease every six hours from the opening of the servers, and will continue to drop even during maintenance. Furthermore, plots of land released in the future will never be more expensive.
Legacy World Price Adjustments
Due to the prodigious amount of gil in circulation in legacy Worlds, we regret that current housing prices may be prohibitive to the following players:
- Those new to the game who started on legacy Worlds
- Those returning to a legacy World after taking an extended break
- Those on a legacy World who have been unable to save gil
Upon considering the feedback we have received since the release of the patch notes, we have decided to make the following adjustments:
- Land prices will start at the figures indicated in the patch notes
- From January 2014, devaluation will be adjusted every two weeks
- After three months, final land prices will match those of World Group 3
* World Group 3 (third listed in the patch notes)
Bahamut / Behemoth / Cactuar / Carbuncle / Chocobo / Diabolos / Fenrir / Garuda / Gilgamesh / Ifrit / Leviathan / Mandragora / Midgardsormr / Odin / Ramuh / Shiva / Siren / Tiamat / Titan / Tonberry / Ultros
Although this takes place over the course of three months, land prices in legacy Worlds will eventually fall to match those of World Group 3. In the event that pricing changes are made to this group, the same will be applied to legacy Worlds.
By adjusting devaluation at set intervals rather than in one go, we hope to prevent a sudden rash of purchases.
The introduction of housing will help to unify the perceived value of gil in each individual World. Furthermore, it has presented an opportunity for us to consider the lifting of restrictions on transfers between between legacy and non-legacy Worlds.
Personal Housing
While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.
In Summary
- The final price of land on all Worlds is subject to adjustments, and may fall lower
- Over the course of three months, prices on legacy Worlds will fall to match those of World Group 3
- Personal housing will be far more affordable than free company housing
We realize that these measures will not immediately satisfy all players, especially those on legacy Worlds who are either new to the game or returning from extended absences. We ask for your patience and understanding as we strive to create a balanced housing system.

* Pricing for Legacy Worlds has been set higher due to the greater amount of gil in circulation compared to newly established Worlds.
* The grouping listed above is subject to change based on variance in population and economy.
Each residential district is divided into a number of identical wards. Even if the plot of land you desire has already been purchased in a certain ward, it may still be available in another.
Additional wards will be added as required based on fluctuations in the population and economy of each World.
* The price of newly added plots will be based on the starting prices for that World.
Building an Estate Hall
In order to build an estate hall on a plot of land, players must first acquire a construction permit. A construction permit can be purchased from the Housing window while on your property.
* From patch 2.2 onward, players will be able to hire a retainer to serve on the free company estate.
Settings on Your Housing
Once you build the house, you may change various settings on your house such as the name of your house, a message to your Free Company members and who can enter the house.
Remodeling the Estate Hall
An estate hall is comprised of four mandatory fixtures (roof, exterior wall, windows, and door) along with up to four optional fixtures (roof decoration, exterior wall decoration, placard, and fence). These components can be crafted, purchased from vendors, or obtained by exchanging company seals. In order to remodel the hall, company members must be given authorization by the company leader.
* Once placed, exterior parts cannot be retrieved.
Outdoor Furnishings
Certain furnishings can be placed on the estate grounds outside the hall. These furnishings can be crafted, purchased from vendors, or obtained by exchanging company seals. The following actions are available when editing outdoor furnishings:
- Move: Change the position of selected furnishing.
- Rotate: Rotate the selected furnishing.
- Remove: Remove the selected furnishing.
The number of outdoor furnishings that can be placed is dependent on plot size:
- Small: 20
- Medium: 30
- Large: 40
* Once a furnishing has been placed, it can no longer be traded or sold on the market. Furthermore, certain furnishings will be lost upon removal.
Remodeling the Interior
Certain interior fixtures such as wall, flooring, and lighting can be customized. These components can be crafted, purchased from vendors, or obtained by exchanging company seals.
Indoor Furnishings
Your estate hall can be decorated with a wide range of interior furnishings. Categories include tables, lamps, plants, wall mountings, carpets, and more. Certain items can be placed on top of others, such as lamps upon counter surfaces. Interior furnishings can be placed and adjusted in the same fashion as exterior furnishings mentioned above.
The number of interior furnishings that can be placed is dependent on estate hall size:
- Cottage: 50
- House: 100
- Mansion: 200
* Once a furnishing has been placed, it can no longer be traded or sold on the market. Furthermore, certain furnishings will be lost upon removal.
Painting Fixtures and Furnishings
It is possible to change the color of certain exterior fixtures and furnishings. To paint an exterior fixture, select Paint Exterior by accessing Housing within the Social menu. Individual furnishings can be painted when selected from the inventory.
Relinquishing Land
In order to relinquish a plot of land, you must first remove the estate hall and all furnishings. Once the plot is completely vacant, it can be relinquished from the Housing menu. Only free company members with the requisite authorization can perform this action.
* Gil will not be refunded upon relinquishing a plot of land.
* From patch 2.2 onward, a free company will automatically relinquish its land if its estate is unused for a prolonged period of time.
For a fee of 2,000 gil, you can hire the services of the aesthetician, who can make changes to your character’s hairstyle and cosmetic facial details. Customization options include those not available at character creation. The aesthetician’s repertoire will be expanded in future updates.

In order to prevent the accidental loss of valuable items and gear, certain items have been made undiscardable. However, there have been a number of cases wherein players acquire multiple instances of these items, resulting in insufficient storage space. To address this issue, we have re-evaluated what items can and cannot be discarded.
Please take the utmost care when managing your inventory, as certain items cannot be reacquired.

Please note that commendations can only be made by those who joined a duty on their own, and not those in a party.
These commendations can be accumulated over time, and by receiving a certain amount, you will unlock achievements that grant special rewards.
Players who are absent for extended periods or harass others can now be democratically expelled from the party.
To initiate a vote, first select Party Members from the Social section of the main menu. Next, select the party member you wish to nominate for dismissal, then Vote Dismiss from the submenu. When vote dismiss is initiated, party members will be prompted for their response. If more than half vote Yes, the player in question will be dismissed from the party.
* 4 hours must elapse since your last vote dismiss before you can initiate another.
* You will be required to select a reason for dismissal. Please be warned that unjustified usage of vote dismiss is a punishable act.
Through the Party Finder, you can either search for a party to join, or recruit other adventurers to form a party of your own. This feature is unlocked upon completion of the quest “It’s Probably Pirates,” and can be found in the Social section of the main menu.
* Players who have already fulfilled this requirement will have access to the Party Finder upon release of patch 2.1.
The list of partys that are looking for members will be listed on the upper side of the Party Finder window and you may check the details on what kind of members they are looking for.
By pressing “Join,” you will join the party right away. You may also send a Tell message to the party leader.
